Endotracheal Tube Cleaning Apparatus

Endotracheal Tube Cleaning Apparatus

US Patent:
6494208, Dec 17, 2002
Filed:
Jun 30, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/608026
Inventors:
Orlando Morejon - Miami FL 33182
International Classification:
A61M 1600
US Classification:
12820715, 12820714, 128912
Abstract:
An endotracheal tube cleaning apparatus to be used with an endotracheal tube, the cleaning apparatus having an elongate tubular member with a distal end that extends into the endotracheal tube and a channel defined therethrough and terminating at a distal end disposed in a vicinity of the distal end of the elongate tubular member. A cleaning assembly is provided at the distal end of the elongate tubular member so as to engage the interior wall structure of the endotracheal tube, as a result of a resilient material bladder, for cleaning thereof. A ventilator coupling is further provided and is connected to the endotracheal tube, a first inlet port of the ventilator coupling being coupled to a ventilator assembly to supply air to a patient, and a second inlet port of the ventilator coupling being structured to receive the elongate tubular member therethrough into the endotracheal tube. Also, a bypass coupling assembly is connected between the channel of the elongate tubular member and the ventilator assembly so as to automatically direct air from the ventilator assembly into the channel of the elongate tubular member, and out the distal end of the channel, upon occlusion of a flow of the air through the endotracheal tube at a point of the endotracheal tube upstream of the distal end of the channel.

Trocar Insertion Device

Trocar Insertion Device

US Patent:
5843115, Dec 1, 1998
Filed:
Oct 28, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/738844
Inventors:
Orlando Morejon - Miami FL
International Classification:
A61B 1734
US Classification:
606185
Abstract:
A trocar insertion device to facilitate the introduction of a conventional trocar into a patient, the insertion device including a generally elongate insertion arm that has a tubular configuration structured and disposed to removably receive a trocar mounted thereon, and a generally narrow and short guide segment extending from a forward end of the insertion arm. The guide segment includes a pointed tip structured and disposed to facilitate penetration of the guide segment through a patient's skin so as to define a small guide port in the patient's skin. Furthermore, a penetration resistance hub defined at the forward end of the insertion arm is provided and disposed to abut the patient's skin after initial penetration of the guide segment through the patient's skin, thereby resisting penetration of the insertion arm, and the trocar thereon, through the patient's skin until after a plurality of surgical blades protrude from the insertion arm to cut a corresponding number of incisions, extending from the guide port defined in the patient's skin, which define an entry opening wherethrough the insertion arm and the trocar disposed thereon penetrate the patient's skin, with minimal resistance and minimal skin trauma, to a desired depth.

Endotracheal Tube Cleaning Apparatus

Endotracheal Tube Cleaning Apparatus

US Patent:
6082361, Jul 4, 2000
Filed:
Sep 12, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/928113
Inventors:
Orlando Morejon - Miami FL
International Classification:
A61M 1600
US Classification:
12820715
Abstract:
An endotracheal tube cleaning apparatus to be used with an endotracheal tube, the cleaning apparatus having an elongate tubular member with a distal end that extends into the endotracheal tube and at least one channel defined therethrough and terminating at a distal end disposed in a vicinity of the distal end of the elongate tubular member. A cleaning assembly is provided at the distal end of the elongate tubular member so as to affirmatively engage the interior wall structure of the endotracheal tube, as a result of a resilient material bladder, for cleaning thereof. A ventilator coupling is further provided and is connected to the endotracheal tube. Moreover, a first inlet port of the ventilator coupling is coupled to a ventilator assembly structured to supply air to a patient, and a second inlet port of the ventilator coupling is structured to receive the elongate tubular member therethrough into the endotracheal tube. Also, a bypass coupling assembly is provided and connected in fluid flow communication between the channel of the elongate tubular member and the ventilator assembly so as to automatically direct air from the ventilator assembly into the channel of the elongate tubular member, and out the distal end of the channel, upon occlusion of a flow of the air through the endotracheal tube at a point of the endotracheal tube upstream of the distal end of the channel.

Endotracheal Tube Cleaning Device

US Patent:
5709691, Jan 20, 1998
Filed:
Mar 11, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/613277
Inventors:
Orlando Morejon - Miami FL
International Classification:
A61D 0112
US Classification:
606106
Abstract:
An endotracheal tube cleaning device to be used in an endotracheal tube of the type that has a flow through passage with an interior wall surface that defines an interior diameter thereof. The endotracheal tube cleaning device includes an elongate tubular member with a length at least as long as the endotracheal tube and a diameter smaller than a corresponding diameter of the endotracheal tube. Defined within the elongate tubular member, and extending from generally a first end to a second end thereof, is a channel. The channel terminates in an outlet port connected in fluid flow communication with a resilient material bladder that is structure to inflate to a diameter sufficient to engage the interior wall surface of the endotracheal tube. Moreover, the resilient material bladder is covered with an expandable exterior sheath that completely contains the resilient material bladder in case of rupture and provides an exterior, generally abrasive surface that engages and thereby cleans the interior wall surface of the endotracheal tube when the resilient material bladder is inflated and the elongate tubular member is removed from an inserted orientation within the endotracheal tube.

Abstract:
A sterile cap assembly including first and second cap sections, the first cap section to be coupled to an opening of a first element and the second cap section to be coupled to an opening of a second element, upon the opening of the first element being separated from the opening of the second element. The first cap section includes a sterile engagement face exposed to an interior of the first element upon being coupled thereto and the second cap section including a sterile engagement face exposed to an interior of the second element upon being coupled thereto, the sterile engagement faces structured to be coupled with one another upon the opening of the first element being coupled to the opening of the second element, thereby maintaining the sterility of the sterile engagement faces.

Trocar Assembly

Trocar Assembly

US Patent:
5713869, Feb 3, 1998
Filed:
Mar 8, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/400602
Inventors:
Orlando Morejon - Miami FL
International Classification:
A61M 532, A61M 5178
US Classification:
604174
Abstract:
An improved trocar assembly including an elongate shaft, with an open proximal end, an open distal end, an axial channel, and a substantially smooth exterior surface so as to prevent frictional engagement of the exterior surface with various tissue plains at an incision opening in the patient, and a distal expandable component, disposed substantially at the distal end of the elongate shaft and having at least one inflatable cuff structured to selectively maintain the elongate shaft partially within the patient subsequent to its insertion into the patient. Further, the inflatable cuff is preferably formed of a substantially non-elastic material such that a wall thickness thereof will be uniform along its entire surface both when it is in an inflated and uninflated orientation, thereby substantially reducing a likelihood that the inflatable cuff will rupture, while allowing the inflatable cuff to seal-off the incision opening about the elongate shaft to prevent airflow from an interior of the patient through the incision opening. Additionally, an upper collar assembly is slideably disposed on the elongate shaft and is structured to be locked in place along the elongate shaft so as to substantially captivate the various tissue plains of the patient between the upper collar assembly and the inflatable cuff, in its inflated state.
