Abstract:
This invention relates to a temporary indwelling prostatic stent which provides a passage for urine through the prostatic urethra and which enable the patient to void the bladder at will. This temporary prostatic stent consists of a coiled or braided made out of metal or plastic section which spans the prostatic urethra, wings composed of memory alloy allowing an anchoring means in the bladder, and an anchoring means below the external sphincter, and a retrieval string to facilitate removal of the stent from the patient.

Abstract:
A support device suitable for urethral support is adjustable for length post operatively. An elongated body has at least one bellows and a line going through a passage in the elongated body. The elongated body is supported in the patient and the line is adjustable by balloon inflation or rotation of a drum. The amount of support can be changed postoperatively using an instrument inserted through the skin with a local anesthetic or even from outside the skin with no surgical intervention. The bellows changes length when adjustments are made.

Abstract:
A cutting needle assembly for making a percutaneous incision in a living body such as that required for supra-pubic catheterization. The cutting needle of the assembly consists of a hollow beveled tip needle shaft with a surgical blade suitably attached thereto at a distance proximal from the beveled tip, the blade extending radially outward from the needle shaft and extending along a length thereof, for use in creating cuts in tissue adjacent the needle to provide an opening of larger size than the needle puncture for the insertion of other medical instruments including dilators and catheters.

Abstract:
An external control valve such as for an indwelling urethral catheter allows for selectively controlled urination via manual manipulation. The external valve is actuated by palpation as the patient compresses a proximal portion toward a distal portion of the valve. The valve includes a hollow stem having a bore in the wall thereof that is kept closed through the use of a biasing spring. Once the spring is compressed by the patient, bore is positioned within an opening in the distal portion, allowing urine to flow out of an opening in the proximal end of the valve.
