I believe in truth. My patients should receive truthful information about their condition and the way it could affect them. I provide knowledge about their condition and steer them to reliable places to obtain additional information. An informed patient is more likely to be able to make decisions about further treatment and diagnostic endeavors and as such be satisfied with the results, especially if they know potential outcomes ahead of time. Well informed patients also understand the nature of their diseases and how to provide some self-help in conjunction with obtaining professional help. Furthermore they will understand the limitations of medical therapy and will more likely be able to lead more productive lives within the constraints of their condition. Hopefully this will lead to more satisfaction with the medical care they obtain. After all, we as physicians want our patients to understand and be satisfied with their care.
