Abstract:
A crosslinked polymer composition obtained by the metathesis polymerization of a dicyclopentadiene monomer in which a chlorinated polymer such as a chlorinated elastomer or chlorinated polypropylene is dissolved; a crosslinked dicyclopentadiene polymer composition comprising a ring-opened dicyclopentadiene polymer and a dicyclopentadiene-soluble chlorinated polymer; and a method for preparing a crosslinked polymer composition comprising adding the chlorinated polymer to one of two reactant liquid streams, one of which contains dicyclopentadiene and a ring-opening metathesis catalyst and the other contains a catalyst activator, combining the two streams, and charging them to a mold or similar forming container in which the dicyclopentadiene polymerizes.

Abstract:
A polymer composition with improved scratch and mar resistance contains (1) a graft copolymer comprising a backbone of a propylene polymer material having graft polymerized thereto at least one vinyl monomer capable of being polymerized by free radicals, and (2) an additive selected from the group consisting of (a) about 0. 5% to about 10% of at least one low molecular weight ethylene polymer or a functionalized derivative thereof, and (b) a combination of (i) about 0. 5% to about 10% of at least one of the low molecular weight ethylene polymers in (a) and (ii) about 0. 5% to about 10% of inorganic microspheres, based on the total weight of the composition. Optionally the composition can also contain a compatibilizing agent such as an unsaturated carboxylic acid-functionalized propylene polymer material. The composition can optionally contain about 2% to about 30% of one or more rubber components, about 15% to about 50% of a broad molecular weight distribution propylene polymer material, or a combination of the two.

Disclosed is an improved method for making a thermoset polymer wherein a plurality of reactant streams, one of which contains the activator of a metathesis catalyst system combined with a moderator, and a second of which contains the catalyst of the metathesis catalyst system and at least one of which contains dicyclopentadiene are combined to form a reaction mixture, and the reaction mixture is then injected into a mold where polymerization occurs. A polymeric sheet structure for use in a packaging container. The sheet contains a first layer of oxygen barrier material and a second and optionally third protective layer bonded to the first layer. The oxygen barrier layer material can be saponified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, polyamide, polyvinyl alcohol, modification products thereof, or mixtures thereof, and the second and third protective layer can contain a polymer and an inorganic filler with an aspect ratio distribution in an amount sufficient to further enhance the moisture barrier property of the outer protective layer over what it would be in the absence of the filler. Also a process for protecting an oxygen or moisture sensitive material that includes the step of enclosing the material in a container that is completely or partially constructed of the sheet structure.
