A method, system, and program for generating scripts in a networked environment are disclosed. A shell script is written in a programming language in which the shell script is used in a networked environment. The shell script is programmingly converted to a script executable under a specific platform. The script is executed under the specific platform. A script generating command its defined in the shell script. Parameters for the script generating command are defined. The script generating command is executed with the parameters to generate the script. Prefix names having associated prefix variables that are passed to the script generating command are also defined. The prefix names and the prefix variables are obtained for the script generating command. Values for the prefix variables are retrieved from a table. Easy and flexible management and execution of scripts in various scripting languages within a networked environment that includes a collection of systems running under different platforms are provided by the present invention.

A method, system and apparatus for dynamically reconfiguring partitions of a partitioned computer system are provided. Here, dynamically reconfiguring a partition is defined as being able to reconfigure the partition while the partition is operational. Using a graphical user interface (GUI), a user may indicate a plurality of resources that are to be involved in a partition reconfiguration. However, the partition is actually reconfigured one resource at a time. If one of the resources is memory, then memory is allocated to the partition or de-allocated from the partition one logical memory block (LMB) at a time. In reconfiguring partitions, resources may be removed, added or moved from one partition to another. Moving resources from one partition to another entails removing the resources from one partition and adding it to the other partition. After a partition re-configuration, a resource allocation table is updated.

The present invention is a system, method, and computer readable medium for determining which graphic user interface (GUI) control element, including a graphic symbol and associated control code, to use to display particular data. The present invention uses a data-driven model, wherein the GUI control element, referred to as a widget, for a particular set of data is determined dynamically, based on information contained in a database. A widget may be created, displayed, and modified without having to change the program code which uses the widget to display data. As a program executes, it is determined that data needs to be displayed as part of a graphical user interface. The program which is executing calls a generic GUI manager, which determines which widget to use for the particular data at this point in the program and displays the widget. The generic GUI manager reads a database entry associated with the data to be displayed. The database entry contains information, or characteristics, regarding the data.
