Self-Fastening And Replaceable Button For A Fabric

US Patent:
2002008, Jul 4, 2002
Filed:
Jan 2, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/752473
Inventors:
Milton Okun - Canton MA, US
International Classification:
A44B001/40
US Classification:
024/106000
Abstract:
A self-fastening and replaceable button for a fabric that includes a first portion, and a second portion. The first portion includes a retainer, and a first projection that extends from the retainer and is a hollow coil that is helically-shaped so as to form a thread pattern that pierces and threads through the fabric. The second portion includes a fastener that is button-shaped, and a second projection that depends from the fastener and engages with the first projection. In a first embodiment, the retainer is disk-shaped, and the second projection is cylindrically-shaped and has a socket that threadably receives the first projection. In a second embodiment, the retainer is the proximal end of the first projection enlarged. In a third embodiment, the second projection is another hollow coil that is helically-shaped so as to form a thread pattern that threadably engages with the first projection.

Method For Repairing An Eyeglass Hinge Having A Failed Screw

US Patent:
2003005, Mar 27, 2003
Filed:
Sep 20, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/957003
Inventors:
Milton Okun - Canton MA, US
International Classification:
B23P006/00
US Classification:
029/011000, 029/020000
Abstract:
A method for repairing an eyeglass hinge having a failed screw so as to form a repaired eyeglass hinge utilizing a kit that includes a magnifying glass and a pair of strips. Each strip is slender, elongated, resilient, and tapers from a proximal end thereof to a distal end thereof so as to accommodate different sized eyeglass hinges, and the eyeglass hinge has a pair of mating portions. The method includes the steps of aligning the pair of mating portions of the eyeglass hinge utilizing the magnifying glass of the kit so as to form an aligned eyeglass hinge, inserting the distal end of one strip of the kit through the aligned eyeglass hinge in place of the failed screw, pulling the distal end of the one strip until such time as the one strip goes no further through the aligned eyeglass hinge indicating that the one strip is compressingly retained in the aligned eyeglass hinge so as to form a partially repaired eyeglass hinge, cutting the one strip just above the partially repaired eyeglass hinge, and cutting the one strip just below the partially repaired eyeglass hinge so as to form the repaired eyeglass hinge.

Fastener For Multiple Layers Having Alignable Apertures Therethrough

US Patent:
6158937, Dec 12, 2000
Filed:
Nov 16, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/440745
Inventors:
Milton R. Okun - Canton MA
International Classification:
F16B 1900, F16B 2100
US Classification:
411342
Abstract:
A fastener for multiple layers having alignable apertures therethrough. The fastener includes a first head, a second head, and a connector. The first head passes through the alignable apertures in the multiple layers and snugs against a first extreme outermost layer of the multiple layers. The second head opposes the first head and snugs against the other extreme outermost layer of the multiple layers. The connector connects the first head to the second head and is disposed in the alignable apertures in the multiple layers and maintains the first head snugly against the first extreme outermost layer of the multiple layers and the second head snugly against the second extreme outermost layer of the multiple layers and thereby retains the multiple layers between the first head and the second head.

Variable Focus Eyeglasses

US Patent:
4403840, Sep 13, 1983
Filed:
Mar 9, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/241781
Inventors:
Milton R. Okun - Canton MA
International Classification:
G02C 100
US Classification:
351 41
Abstract:
This invention relates to variable focus eyeglasses comprising flexible and rigid optical components. The rigid components act as molds which modify the optical properties of the flexible components when the flexible and rigid components are engaged. At least one of the flexible or rigid components is movable along an anterior-posterior axis, resulting in the distortion and restitution of a flexible component by one or more rigid components thereby altering the optical properties of the system. A spring mechanism located in the nosepiece or bridge portion of the eyeglasses may be used to facilitate the anterior-posterior movement of the movable components.
