Piping Retention With Integrated Components For Prevention Of Vapor Emission Of Subterranean Storage Tanks

US Patent:
6971419, Dec 6, 2005
Filed:
May 22, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/445565
Inventors:
Michael Lessley - Glendale CA, US
Assignee:
Triangle Environmental, Inc. - Burbank CA
International Classification:
B65B031/00
US Classification:
141 86, 141 59, 141 98
Abstract:
A piping system for adding fuel to underground storage tanks includes a fill piping system and a vapor return piping system designed to prevent fuel spills and leakage of fuel vapors into the atmosphere. Fuel and vapor leakage are avoided by eliminating most of the threaded joints in each such piping assemblies by welding them into joint-free unitary stainless steel assemblies. A brace bar extends between the fill and vapor return piping systems and is secured to octagonal side flats on both assemblies such that the octagonal members cannot rotate unless the brace bar is removed. Annular synthetic rubber spill buckets are selectively inserted into each piping system to catch spills and prevent fuel from leaking near the tank or vapor from leaking out of the vapor recovery system into the atmosphere. In another modification, the spill bucket is used only on the fill piping system.

Filter Valve Assembly

US Patent:
5390701, Feb 21, 1995
Filed:
Apr 6, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/224268
Inventors:
Michael R. Lessley - Glendale CA
Larry P. Henry - Anaheim CA
International Classification:
B10D 3502
US Classification:
137549
Abstract:
A housing for use with a removable filter element includes fluid inlet passages and a fluid outlet passage, a plurality of arcuate slots arranged in a generally circular pattern on the housing, the housing including a valve body with bolts passing through the slots securing the valve body to the housing. A threaded boss is formed on the valve body for attachment of a filter element. A number of ports are formed on the valve body in registery with the fluid inlet passages for supplying fluid to the filter element. The boss includes a passageway therethrough communicating with the outlet passage and a check valve in the passageway. A seal is positioned between the housing and the valve body. Turning the filter element in a direction to remove it causes an initial rotation of the bolts in the slots resulting in misalignment of the ports and the fluid inlet passages, blocking flow to the ports.
