Seat Recliner Mechanism With Fold-Flat Feature

Seat Recliner Mechanism With Fold-Flat Feature

US Patent:
2011008, Apr 21, 2011
Filed:
Nov 6, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/675067
Inventors:
Kurt A. Seibold - Whitmore Lake MI, US
Michael John Thomas - Ann Arbor MI, US
Yogesh A. Pawar - Farmington Hills MI, US
Assignee:
JOHNSON CONTROLS TECHNOLOGY COMPANY - Holland MI
International Classification:
B60N 2/235, B60N 2/20, B60N 2/02
US Classification:
297367 R
Abstract:
A vehicular seat assembly () having a backrest () capable of reclining between maximum upright () and maximum rearward () conditions. The backrest () can also be rotated to a fold-flat condition (). A rotary recliner mechanism () controls reclining motion of the backrest (). A dump latch () is operatively associated with the rotary recliner mechanism (), and is automatically actuated by movement of the seat backrest () past its maximum upright condition (). The dump latch () is controlled by a trigger () which interacts with a cam () on a base plate () of the rotary recliner mechanism (). A biasing member () automatically resets the trigger () when the backrest () is returned to its maximum upright position (). The dump latch () and biasing member () are carried on a toothed top plate () that is formed integrally with the rotary recliner mechanism ().

B60N 2/22
US Classification:
29735412, 2973611
Abstract:
A tube recliner mechanism for a vehicle seat having a reclining seat back includes an inner tube extending in a lateral cross vehicle direction and having inboard and outboard ends, an outer tube positioned around the inner tube, and a cylindrical spacer positioned between the inner tube and the outer tube. The relative rotational position of the inner and outer tubes is configured to change via rotation of one of the inner and outer tubes. The spacer, inner tube, and outer tube are all concentrically positioned to thereby reduce friction between the inner and outer tubes during relative movement between the tubes.
