Endotracheal Tube With Tip Directional Control And Position Preserving Mechanism

US Patent:
6761171, Jul 13, 2004
Filed:
Apr 4, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/117571
Inventors:
Andrew J. Toti - Modesto CA 95351
Michael H. Wong - Irvine CA 92620
Jay S Kotin - Irvine CA 92620
International Classification:
A61M 1600
US Classification:
12820714, 12820026
Abstract:
An endotracheal tube which facilitates rapid intubation of the trachea, especially in situations where anatomical variation creates difficult intubating conditions, includes a portion that can be bent during placement to control the position of the distal end of the tube. The distal end of the endotracheal tube may be selectively curled or bent by a mechanism or fluid passage accessible from the proximal end of the endotracheal tube. The endotracheal tube provides for manipulation of the insertion end without occluding the lumen of the tube, to facilitate placement of the tube.

Stylet For Use With Endotracheal Tubes Having An Articulable Tip

US Patent:
2004013, Jul 22, 2004
Filed:
Dec 29, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/749018
Inventors:
Michael Wong - Irvine CA, US
Jay Kotin - Irvine CA, US
International Classification:
A61M016/00
US Classification:
128/207140
Abstract:
A fixed length, immalleable stylet for insertion into an endotracheal tube with an articulating tip. The stylet is preferably curved, semi-rigid and shape-retaining. This stylet is of fixed length and when inserted into an endotracheal tube with an articulating tip, promotes rigidity of the main body of the endotracheal tube, while allowing full function of the articulating tip mechanism. The stylet cannot protrude beyond the flexion point of an articulating tip endotracheal tube. This combination allows the tube to be passed in even very difficult airways while preserving the articulation capability afforded by the endotracheal tube.
