Personal Dial Tone Service With Personalized Call Waiting

Personal Dial Tone Service With Personalized Call Waiting

US Patent:
6704405, Mar 9, 2004
Filed:
Apr 3, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/823997
Inventors:
Robert D. Farris - Sterling VA
Alexander I. McAllister - Silver Spring MD
Michael J. Strauss - Potomac MD
Assignee:
Verizon Services Corp. - Arlington VA
International Classification:
H04M 100
US Classification:
37921501, 379 8819, 37920716, 37937302
Abstract:
An intelligent telephone network provides personalized communication services based on a voice identification of the subscriber. The network executes a speech processing operation to identify the person or a party that the person is calling as a known subscriber. The network can provide personalized services to several subscribers sharing a common line. For incoming calls to such a line, the network executes an interactive procedure to determine from the caller which subscriber is being called. If the line is free, the switch applies distinctive ringing. If the line is in use, the switching office uses the profile of the identified subscriber to provide a distinctive call waiting tone or a voice message over the line. The tone or voice message indicates to the party using the line that there is a call waiting and specifically identifies the called subscriber.

Internetwork Telephony With Enhanced Features

Internetwork Telephony With Enhanced Features

US Patent:
6272126, Aug 7, 2001
Filed:
Jul 24, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/899813
Inventors:
Michael J. Strauss - Potomac MD
Robert D. Farris - Sterling VA
Assignee:
Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc. - Arlington VA
International Classification:
H04L 1266, H04M 700
US Classification:
370352
Abstract:
Interconnect traffic between local exchange carrier (LECs) networks and other carrier networks, particularly competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) networks, dictates a need for efficient monitoring and analysis of the interconnect traffic. In accord with the invention, monitor equipment on the LEC network captures call related messages produced by the LEC network and compiles data from those messages to form call detail records for the interconnect traffic. These records are loaded into a relational database. A data preparation routine enhances the data, for example, by translating certain codes from the records into more useful text and by spreading or binning usage over predefined time intervals. An on-line analytical processing program runs one or more applications to allow the LEC to analyze the interconnect traffic between the LEC network and the other carrier's network. The analysis provides useful traffic data for accounting purposes, e. g.

Providing Enhanced Services Through Siv And Personal Dial Tone

Providing Enhanced Services Through Siv And Personal Dial Tone

US Patent:
6167119, Dec 26, 2000
Filed:
Jan 12, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/006033
Inventors:
Dale L. Bartholomew - Vienna VA
Robert D. Farris - Sterling VA
Alexander I. McAllister - Silver Spring MD
Michael J. Strauss - Potomac MD
Assignee:
Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc. - Arlington VA
International Classification:
H04M 342
US Classification:
379 8804
Abstract:
An intelligent telephone network provides personalized communication services based on subscriber prescribed double speech signal processing of utterances of both calling and answering parties on a subscriber line having multiple subscribers with a single directory number. Specifically, when one of the multiple subscribers has personalized voice mail service and a busy/no answer call is received, the network uses speech processing of an utterance of the calling party to identify a customer service profile of the called party in the terminating switch. This contains instructions inviting storage of a voice message left by the caller. Upon the subscriber going off-hook, the customer profile of the subscriber line is installed in the switch. The subscriber transmits an utterance and the personalized customer profile of the subscriber is identified by a virtual office equipment number and the profile installed in the switch. The subscriber may then retrieve the stored message.

Personal Dial Tone Service With Personalized Caller Id

Personal Dial Tone Service With Personalized Caller Id

US Patent:
6038305, Mar 14, 2000
Filed:
Aug 1, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/904936
Inventors:
Alexander I. McAllister - Silver Spring MD
Robert D. Farris - Sterling VA
Michael J. Strauss - Potomac MD
Assignee:
Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc. - Arlington VA
International Classification:
H04M 342
US Classification:
379207
Abstract:
A telephone network provides personalized calling services based on a voice identification of a calling subscriber. When a person initiates a call, the network executes a speaker identification/verification procedure to identify the person as a subscriber. For example, on an outgoing call over a telephone line, the speaker identification/verification process provides a virtual office equipment number corresponding the identified subscriber. The central office switch servicing the outgoing call receives the virtual office equipment number and uses that number to retrieve a service profile associated with the subscriber. The switch provides a personalized form of "dial tone" like service to the subscriber by processing the outgoing call using the profile. As part of this service, the switch and the network provide subscriber specific identification information to the called party, to provide caller ID service which identifies the individual subscriber rather than the line or station that the subscriber has called from.

Intelligent Peripheral And Network Control

Intelligent Peripheral And Network Control

US Patent:
5864614, Jan 26, 1999
Filed:
Jul 11, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/678725
Inventors:
Robert D. Farris - Sterling VA
Michael J. Strauss - Potomac MD
Assignee:
Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc. - Arlington VA
International Classification:
H04M 342
US Classification:
379207
Abstract:
A telecommunications network incorporating an Advanced Intelligent Network having a service control point including a centralized database and having a peripheral platform comprising an Intelligent Peripheral providing at least one auxiliary call processing capability. The service control point is in communication with a network switching system via a common channel signaling communication network. The peripheral platform is in communication with the service control point over a second data connection and is in communication with switching systems in the network switching system over F links and voice channels. The individual switching systems are in connection with one another through F links. The peripheral platform is capable of call management which obviates the necessity of using the common channel signaling system to accomplish the same call management. The service control point is arranged to act proactively to issue instructions to the peripheral platform to expedite call management.

Voice Mail System For Obtaining Routing Information From Signaling Nodes

Voice Mail System For Obtaining Routing Information From Signaling Nodes

US Patent:
6061432, May 9, 2000
Filed:
Dec 23, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/997538
Inventors:
Harrison K. Wallace - Herndon VA
Robert D. Farris - Sterling VA
Michael J. Strauss - Potomac MD
Assignee:
Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc. - Arlington VA
International Classification:
H04M 164, H04M 700
US Classification:
379 8818
Abstract:
A voice mail system includes SS7 signaling capabilities to communicate on a telephone signaling network. The voice mail system uses those capabilities to obtain routing information, for sending a recorded message to a destination mail system, by sending a query message to either a destination central office storing called party profile information or an intelligent signaling transfer point (ISTP) storing the called party profile information. The voice mail system records a voice mail message from a subscriber, and collects a destination telephone number indicating the intended recipient of the recorded message. The voice mail system generates a query message, and receives a response message via the signaling network from a non-AIN database, such as the destination central office or the ISTP. The voice mail system then initiates a line-sided connection with the destination voice mail system, and either sends SS7 signaling messages to identify the called party if the destination voice mail system has SS7 capabilities, or generates DTMF tones representing the called number when prompted.
