Portable Water Treatment Facility

US Patent:
6616839, Sep 9, 2003
Filed:
Nov 28, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/724863
Inventors:
Michael J. Peterson - Nashville TN
Richard M. Russell - Brentwood TN
David H. Albright - Pleasant View TN
Assignee:
Dialysis Systems, Inc. - Nashville TN
International Classification:
B01D 1508
US Classification:
210241, 210 90, 210103, 210143, 2102572
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a portable water treatment facility. The water treatment facility has housing on castors. The housing houses the water treatment member. The housing has various doors which are locked to make the housing tamper resistant. The housing has an external sampling station which allows a technician at any point in time to ensure that all of the liquids being provided by the water treatment member meet specifications. This system has a modular water treatment member consisting of various filters, tanks, and pumps which are attached to one another by short fluid conduits with quick disconnects. The system is computer monitored, capable of remoting data offsite and producing an audit trail capturing system operational parameters and quality of water produced over time.

Rotational Connecting Valve With Quick Disconnect

US Patent:
6609532, Aug 26, 2003
Filed:
Mar 15, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/809462
Inventors:
Michael J. Peterson - Nashville TN
Assignee:
Dialysis Systems, Inc. - Nashville TN
International Classification:
F16L 3732
US Classification:
137 1518, 137 1524, 13761405, 13761418
Abstract:
A rotational two valve disconnect apparatus including a first rotational valve, a second rotational valve, and a rotational disconnect structure connected to the valves. The valves on the disconnect structure are constructed so that the disconnect can be engaged to flowably connect the first and second valve and disconnected to separably disconnect the first and second valves. The structure is further designed so that a single rotational movement will engage the disconnect structure and open the first and second valves or an opposite rotational movement may close the first and second valves and then disengage the disconnect structure. The preferred embodiment utilizes a single rotational axis for both the first and second valves and the disconnect structure. A further design advantage includes radial ports to allow for reduced operating requirement for the valve in high pressure environments.

Apparatus For Fluid Delivery In A Dialysis Clinic

US Patent:
6506301, Jan 14, 2003
Filed:
Oct 10, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/686994
Inventors:
Michael J. Peterson - Nashville TN
Richard M. Russell - Brentwood TN
Assignee:
Dialysis Systems, Inc. - Nashville TN
International Classification:
B01D 6126
US Classification:
210232, 21032117
Abstract:
A modular fluid transport system is provided for transporting fluids in a dialysis clinic from a fluid source to the dialysis machines. The system includes modular ductwork and modular fluid conduits. The connecting stations may include quick detachable interface manifolds which allow dialysis machines to be easily changed out. The components of the fluid transport system may be heat sterilized. The components of the system may be prefabricated off site and then quickly assembled in the dialysis clinic. Flexibility in the arrangement of equipment within the clinic is provided for.

Heat Disinfection Of A Water Supply

US Patent:
6251279, Jun 26, 2001
Filed:
Dec 9, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/458140
Inventors:
Michael J. Peterson - Nashville TN
Richard M. Russell - Brentwood TN
Assignee:
Dialysis Systems, Inc. - Nashville TN
International Classification:
B01D 6124
US Classification:
210636
Abstract:
A system is provided for the heat disinfection of a fluid supply system for a dialysis machine. The system is provided with plastic conduits constructed of a material suitable for heat disinfection, preferably cross linked polyethylene conduit. A source of hot water is provided, and the hot water is flowed through the plastic conduit for sufficient time and at a sufficient temperature to disinfect the plastic conduit. This system uses a heat exchanger that utilizes fluid provided from a boiler to heat the water. The fluid supply system may employ bicarbonate fluid.

Parallel Plumbing Supply System

US Patent:
6235199, May 22, 2001
Filed:
Mar 12, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/267977
Inventors:
Michael J. Peterson - Nashville TN
Richard M. Russell - Brentwood TN
Assignee:
Dialysis Systems, Inc. - Nashville TN
International Classification:
B01D 6124, B01D 6128
US Classification:
210646
Abstract:
The present invention comprises methods and apparatus for biological-processing unit fluid conveyance and pumping systems. The invention teaches methods of reducing fluid flow resistance and reducing pumping requirements for supplying fluid to the biological-processing unit. Some preferred embodiments of the invention are optimized for dialysis machines and dialysis clinics. In some select embodiments the invention is accomplished utilizing two supply legs in fluid parallel communication. A clinic utilizing fluid parallel supply legs has reduced fluid resistance as compared to a clinic utilizing series arranged supply legs. This reduces initial set-up costs, operating costs and time to construct fluid conveyance systems. Other advantages and embodiments are also disclosed.
