Check Valve And Check Valve Seat

US Patent:
5713389, Feb 3, 1998
Filed:
Aug 24, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/518949
Inventors:
Michael E. Wilson - Spring TX
Roy C. Bates - Crosby TX
Assignee:
FMC Corporation - Chicago IL
International Classification:
F16K 1500
US Classification:
1375157
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a check valve assembly comprising an upstream body member and a downstream body member which are joined in sealing engagement to thereby form a closed body; a generally ring-shaped seating member formed from a unitary piece of material and comprising a flat base surface positioned in said closed body with said flat base surface facing upstream, a flat top surface parallel to said flat base surface, a flow passage extending from said base surface to said top surface and a bore extending into said top surface toward said base surface, said bore defining an annular lip surrounding said flow passage and a recessed upward-angled planar top sealing surface; said seating member further comprising a cut-out segment formed in said lip which defines two extensions projecting axially from the top sealing surface and a transverse hole in each extension through which a hinge pin is received to connect a movable flapper lid to said seating member; said flapper lid comprising a flapper sealing surface adapted to sealingly engage the top sealing surface of the seating member to stop backflow when said regular flow pressure from upstream drops to a predetermined level causing the flapper to rest in the closed position,.

Internal Gate Valve For Flow Completion Systems

US Patent:
2001004, Nov 22, 2001
Filed:
Mar 22, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/815436
Inventors:
Christopher Cunningham - Spring TX, US
Christopher Bartlett - Spring TX, US

Michael Wilson - Spring TX, US
International Classification:
E21B033/00
US Classification:
166/086300, 166/089300, 166/075140
Abstract:
A gate valve for a component which includes an elongated body and a flow passage extending generally longitudinally through the body, the flow passage including a generally lateral first branch connected to a generally longitudinal second branch. The gate valve comprises a gate which is moveable generally longitudinally across the first branch between an open position in which a hole in the gate is aligned with the first branch and a closed position in which the hole is offset from the first branch; a conduit which extends through the body from the gate; an actuating mechanism positioned in the conduit for moving the gate from a first position to a second position; and a return biasing mechanism for moving the gate from the second position to the first position; wherein one of the first and second positions corresponds to the open position of the gate and the other position corresponds to the closed position of the gate; and wherein the conduit extends generally longitudinally through the body.

Asymmetric Seal Segment Configuration

US Patent:
5676348, Oct 14, 1997
Filed:
Jun 12, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/662172
Inventors:
Tep Ungchusri - Woodlands TX
Roy C. Bates - Crosby TX
Michael E. Wilson - Spring TX
Assignee:
FMC Corporation - Chicago IL
International Classification:
F16K 514
US Classification:
251316
Abstract:
A valve comprising a body having an interior cavity, an inlet port and an outlet port; an upstream seat and a downstream seat positioned within the cavity, each seat including a bore in alignment with the inlet and outlet ports to define a flow passage through the valve body; a closure member movably positioned between the seats to either open or close the flow passage; a seat-to-closure member seal defined between each seat and the closure member, the seat-to-closure member seal defining a first area between the seat-to-closure member seal and the bore of the upstream seat; wherein the upstream seat includes a sealing member between the seat and the valve body which is positioned asymmetrically around the bore; and wherein the sealing member defines a second area between the sealing member and the bore which is larger than the first area.
