Method And Apparatus For Discharging A Controlled Amount Of Cryogen Onto Work Surfaces In A Cold Roll Mill

US Patent:
2012000, Jan 5, 2012
Filed:
Aug 27, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/675266
Inventors:
Minfa Lin - Macungie PA, US
Michael Dennis Lanyi - Kempton PA, US
Guido Plicht - Dortmund, DE
Robert James Edwards - Macungie PA, US
Harald Schillak - Bochum, DE
Detlef Bennewitz - Herne, DE
Assignee:
AIR PRODUCTS AND CHEMICALS, INC. - Allentown PA
International Classification:
F25D 17/02, F25B 49/00
US Classification:
62 64, 62126
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for adjusting the amount of cryogen delivered to a mill stand () using a non-optical sensor () to measure at least one operating parameter selected from the group consisting of roll stand parameters, rolled product parameters, and cryogen parameters. Output signals, are generated by the non-optical sensor and a controller () calculates numeric values based on the signals. When the calculated numeric values reach a predetermined set point value that correlates with mill stand temperature, the flow of cryogen is adjusted to disperse a desired amount of cryogenic fluid to said mill stand () to control rolling temperature.

Blast Furnace Iron Production With Integrated Power Generation

US Patent:
8557173, Oct 15, 2013
Filed:
Oct 18, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/275420
Inventors:
Michael Dennis Lanyi - Kempton PA, US
Joseph Anthony Terrible - Emmaus PA, US
Assignee:
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. - Allentown PA
International Classification:
C21B 5/06
US Classification:
266155, 266197
Abstract:
An integrated system for blast furnace iron making and power production based upon higher levels of oxygen enrichment in the blast gas is disclosed. The integrated system leads to; 1) enhanced productivity in the blast furnace, 2) more efficient power production, and 3) the potential to more economically capture and sequester carbon dioxide. Oxygen enhances the ability of coal to function as a source of carbon and to be gasified within the blast furnace thereby generating an improved fuel-containing top gas.

US Classification:
60772, 75460, 266159, 60 39182
Oxygen enhances the ability of coal to function as a source of iron reductant and to be gasified within the blast furnace thereby generating an improved fuel-containing top gas.
