Apparatus And Method For Intubating An Airway Of A Patient

Apparatus And Method For Intubating An Airway Of A Patient

US Patent:
2009005, Feb 26, 2009
Filed:
Aug 14, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/191722
Inventors:
Michael Smith - Akron OH, US
International Classification:
A61M 16/00
US Classification:
12820026
Abstract:
An endotracheal tube has oppositely disposed proximal and distal ends fluidly connected by a ventilation lumen. An apparatus for intubating an airway of a patient with an endotracheal tube includes a housing and a motive mechanism supported by the housing and providing a user interface structure. A tube coupler is supported by the housing and is adapted for motion relative to the housing. The tube coupler is operatively coupled to the motive mechanism and is connectable to the proximal end of the endotracheal tube. A stylet coupler is supported by the housing and is adapted for motion relative to the housing. The stylet coupler is operatively coupled to the motive mechanism and is connectable to a proximal end of an intubation stylet. The motive mechanism is, operable to move the tube coupler in a first direction relative to the housing and to substantially simultaneously move the stylet coupler in a second direction relative to the housing in response to actuation of the user interface structure. A method of intubating an airway of a patient with an endotracheal tube is also described.

Method Of Molding An Endotracheal Tube For Tracheal Intubation

Method Of Molding An Endotracheal Tube For Tracheal Intubation

US Patent:
8343408, Jan 1, 2013
Filed:
Oct 3, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/906362
Inventors:
Michael P. Smith - Copley OH, US
International Classification:
B29C 53/08
US Classification:
264285, 264295, 264339
Abstract:
A mold (form) in which an endotracheal tube, having a stylette therein, is received so as to form the overall configuration of the endotracheal tube is disclosed. The mold has a recess in the surface thereof to receive the endotracheal tube with a stylette therein. The recess has a curve therein adjacent one end of the mold to receive the distal end of the endotracheal tube. The recess in the opposite end of the mold has a bend therein to receive the proximal end of the endotracheal tube. The recess in the intermediate portion of the mold is substantially straight and interconnects the curved end and the oppositely disposed bent end of the recess. The stylette is fabricated from a thin metallic malleable rod which is bendable, and thus configurable, to retain the overall configuration of the endotracheal tube after being formed and removed from the mold. The stylette is withdrawn from the endotracheal tube after the distal end thereof has been inserted through the vocal cords and just into the trachea of the patient being intubated. Due to the configuration of the endotracheal tube, withdrawal of the stylette causes the distal end of the tube to advance further into the trachea of the patient being intubated.

Abstract:
A method for tracking a status of a plurality of tools for a plurality of users includes receiving, at a computer, data related to a tool. The data includes a tool identifier, an associated user, location data, and maintenance history data. The method further includes storing the data related to the tool in a database, identifying a date of a future maintenance event, and transmitting a notification to the associated user when the date of the future maintenance event is within a predetermined period of time of a current date. The method also includes receiving updated location data and updated maintenance history data, and storing this data in the database.
