Electrically Operated Coin Saving And Security

Electrically Operated Coin Saving And Security

US Patent:
4815998, Mar 28, 1989
Filed:
Jan 26, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/148562
Inventors:
Michael L. McGuire - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
A45C 112, A47G 2900
US Classification:
446 8
Abstract:
A bank containing a coin receiving base portion and a detachable top portion containing a battery operated locking system. Such system contains an electromagnetic coil lock for locking together the two portions. A switch responsive to placement of the top portion on the base portion for opening a circuit to de-energize the coil lock so as to lock the portions together. A coin slot switch is also provided to temporarily light a lamp upon dropping of a coin. A mercury switch is also provided to prevent opening of the bank when inverted. A coin sensor is also provided on the top portion for allowing the coil lock to be activated to enable the removal of the top portion when the sensor senses the coin receiving base portion being sufficiently filled with coins.

Continuous Method For Producing Final Gauge Stainless Steel Product

Continuous Method For Producing Final Gauge Stainless Steel Product

US Patent:
5606787, Mar 4, 1997
Filed:
Sep 14, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/527881
Inventors:
Michael F. McGuire - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
J & L Specialty Steel, Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
B22D 11128, B21C 4304, B23P 2500
US Classification:
29 8103
Abstract:
A continuous process line for converting hot rolled stainless steel strip to final gauge product is provided. The stainless steel strip has a scale formed on the surface thereof. The steel strip is introduced to a rolling mill to reduce the thickness of the hot rolled stainless steel to a final gauge thickness and tolerance. The rolling mill also cracks the scale on the surface of the final gauge thickness strip. An annealing section anneals the final gauge thickness strip received from the rolling mill. A pickling section pickles the annealed strip from the annealing section and removes the scale from the surface. Preferably, a molten salt bath section provided between the annealing section and the pickling section conditions the scale cracked in the cold rolling section and passes the conditioned stainless steel to the pickling section.

Method For Finishing Cold-Rolled Stainless Steel

Method For Finishing Cold-Rolled Stainless Steel

US Patent:
6301943, Oct 16, 2001
Filed:
Jul 6, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/609861
Inventors:
Michael F. McGuire - Pittsburgh PA
Richard W. McCabe - Stark OH
Assignee:
J&L Specialty Steel, Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
B21B 3920
US Classification:
72 40
Abstract:
A method for finishing cold-rolled stainless steel is disclosed, wherein the stainless steel is annealed and descaled. After descaling, the cold-rolled stainless steel is temper rolled, buffed and embossed. Line speed as fast as 75 fpm is used to produce an AISI #3 finish.

Steel Alloy Having Improved Creep Strength

Steel Alloy Having Improved Creep Strength

US Patent:
5393487, Feb 28, 1995
Filed:
Aug 17, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/107275
Inventors:
Roy J. Matway - Pittsburgh PA
Michael F. McGuire - Pittsburgh PA
Jay Mehta - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
J & L Specialty Products Corporation - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
C22C 3848
US Classification:
420 43
Abstract:
An austenitic steel alloy is provided having improved creep strength at high temperature. The improved creep strength performance is achieved by adding a limited amount of silicon to the steel alloy along with increased amounts of nitrogen and columbium, also known as niobium. The added columbium ties up the carbon in the alloy composition to prevent sensitization promotion and premature corrosion-fatigue failures. The resulting steel alloy provides improved strength, improved carburization resistance, and maintains good weldability.

Embossed Rolled Steel And Embossing Roll And Method For Making The Same

Embossed Rolled Steel And Embossing Roll And Method For Making The Same

US Patent:
6261702, Jul 17, 2001
Filed:
May 21, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/316509
Inventors:
Michael F. McGuire - Pittsburgh PA
Timm F. Perkins - Louisville OH
Assignee:
J&L Specialty Steel, Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
B12D 5300
US Classification:
428600
Abstract:
A steel sheet having an embossed pattern of straight parallel grooves along the longitudinal axis of the sheet which replicate an abrasively polished surface. Furthermore, a working roll with the embossing pattern comprised of matching channels is disclosed along with methods for imparting the embossed pattern to the steel sheet. Finally, a method for fabricating the channels within the working roll is disclosed utilizing an abrasive element against the periphery of the roll.

Method For Producing Bright Stainless Steel

Method For Producing Bright Stainless Steel

US Patent:
5830291, Nov 3, 1998
Filed:
Oct 8, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/726841
Inventors:
Michael F. McGuire - Pittsburgh PA
Anthony J. Denoi - North Canton OH
Assignee:
J&L Specialty Steel, Inc. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
C21D 800
US Classification:
148610
Abstract:
A method for producing bright stainless steel whereby a hot mill band having a dull oxide-free surface is first formed. The hot mill band is cold reduced to form a full hard coil having a shiny surface. The coil is subjected to continuous annealing at a temperature of 1500. degree. -1950. degree. F. in an oxygen-containing atmosphere sufficient to form a protective FeCr. sub. 2 O. sub. 3 scale. The annealed coil is subjected to a mild non-etching pickling process to remove the black scale. The coil is then rolled on a temper mill having specially finished rolls to impart a surface pattern that replicates an abrasively polished surface.
