Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator

US Patent:
2007011, May 24, 2007
Filed:
Nov 22, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/284082
Inventors:
Michael Gordon - Coconut Grove FL, US
S. Issenberg - Pembroke Pines FL, US
David Lawson - Gaston SC, US
International Classification:
G09B 23/28
US Classification:
434262000
Abstract:
A simulator for simulating a health condition comprises a body having a wall defining a cavity and at least a pair of electromechanical transducers disposed in the cavity. The pair of electromechanical transducers comprise mechanical components coupled to selected parts of the wall of the body. The pair of electromechanical transducers are configured to produce simulated bilateral movements of the selected parts of the wall of the body. The simulator further comprises a controlling device electrically communicating with the electromechanical transducers. The controlling device is configured to control the electromechanical transducers in response to a plurality of sets of electrical signals. Each set of electrical signals corresponding, respectively, to one of a plurality of health conditions. A relationship between corresponding bilateral movements of the selected parts of the wall of the body is different from one health condition to another health condition in the plurality of health conditions.

Cardiological Manikin Auscultation And Blood Pressure Systems

US Patent:
3947974, Apr 6, 1976
Filed:
May 23, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/472715
Inventors:
Michael S. Gordon - Miami FL
Darrell G. Patterson - Miami FL
Assignee:
The University of Miami - Coral Gables FL
International Classification:
G09B 2330
US Classification:
35 17
Abstract:
A manikin system for simulating a cardiological patient is disclosed including a stethoscope with a magnet in its head which when placed on the chest of a manikin will close one or more of a number of reed switches disposed beneath the simulated skin causing an associated one of a number of stored, condition-indicating electrical signal sources to communicate the signals to an audio output for producing appropriate condition-indicating sounds. The condition-indicating electrical signals are placed in a set on the tracks of a magnetic tape to correspond to the sounds of a particular disease and the associated switch for each track is disposed at the point on the manikin chest that the particular sounds would be heard on the chest of an actual patient. The blood pressure of the manikin in accordance with the disease may also be treated by the provision of a switch in the arm of the manikin, which is connected in the manner of the chest switches, and by applying a pressure cuff in the clinical manner. A logic circuit is connected to the pressure readout for controlling the opening and closing of a relay in series with the arm switch.

Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator

US Patent:
7316568, Jan 8, 2008
Filed:
Nov 22, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/284093
Inventors:
Michael S. Gordon - Coconut Grove FL, US
S. Barry Issenberg - Pembroke Pines FL, US
David Arthur Lawson - Gaston SC, US
Assignee:
University of Miami - Coral Gables FL
International Classification:
G09B 23/28
US Classification:
434262, 434265
Abstract:
A simulator for simulating a pulse in a manikin comprises a manikin body. The simulator further comprises a first magnet and a second magnet disposed opposite to each other and spaced apart from each other. The first magnet and second magnet comprise two juxtaposed first and second sub-magnets. The first and second juxtaposed sub-magnets in each magnet are oriented substantially in opposite directions. The first magnet and the second magnet are positioned such that the first sub-magnet of the first magnet is oriented substantially in a same direction as the first sub-magnet of the second magnet and such that the second sub-magnet of the first magnet is oriented substantially in a same direction as the second sub-magnet of the second magnet. The transducer further comprises an armature movably disposed between the first and second magnets. The armature comprises a frame and a solenoid wound adjacent a periphery of the frame.
