The PRINCESS GRACE AWARD may be given to any entry, in any judged category, that is worked entirely in the tent stitch without embellishments such as beads or other attachments, in order to maintain the purity of the stitching technique. The tent stitch is defined as going over one intersection from lower left to upper right with no backstitches, seed stitches, or outline stitches.
State Art Award
American Needlepoint Guild
The STATE ART AWARD may be given to any entry, in any judged category, that is worked by a resident of the state in which the seminar is being held. I can’t remember where or when I fell in love with Monet’s ‘Poppy Field in a Hollow near Giverny’ (1885) but I wanted to capture it in needlepoint. I’ve made 4 previous attempts as I experimented with various stitches, color, and threads. This piece has taken me on quite an ‘adventure’! 2nd Place Ribbon
American Needlepoint Guild
I was inspired to create this piece, Celebrate Love, because Philadelphia was selected to ‘celebrate’ our 40th anniversary and I ‘love’ Philadelphia, ANG, and needlepoint! Obviously, the design had to include the ANG logo, 40, and 2012. I saw the LOVE sculpture daily. And, nothing says Philadelphia more than the Liberty Bell. And, with what little space I had left, I managed to fit in the American Flag and a few stars.
