Philosophy:
Dr. Crawford is a board certified orthopedic surgeon. He has completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and was an assistant physician with several professional and college teams, including the Houston Texans, Houston Astros, and the University of Houston Cougars. During his residency at Michigan State University he cared for the MSU football team, and was team physician for local high schools. Dr. Crawford is now practicing in Austin, and is the team physician for the Hendrickson Hawks.
Dr. Crawford has advanced training in the arthroscopic treatment of injuries to the knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip. Revision surgery of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), shoulder labral injuries, and hip labral tears are areas of special interest. He recently authored a chapter in a leading orthopedic text book on healing of meniscal tears of the knee. His research projects addressing labral tears of the hip, and allograft safety (such as the grafts used in ACL reconstruction) have been awarded the prestigious Frank Stinchfield Award and the Cabaud Award.
Dr. Crawford completed medical school at University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). As part of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) he concurrently obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. One of his many medical/graduate student awards was the Health Science Center's Outstanding Graduate for 2000.
In addition to treating sports injuries, Dr. Crawford provides care for a variety of conditions including arthritis (joint replacement), rotator cuff tears, and fractures. Personal and compassionate care ensures patients understand their orthopedic condition and all possible treatment options.
