System And Method For Improving Cooling In A Friction Facing Environment

US Patent:
2004025, Dec 16, 2004
Filed:
Jun 11, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/458926
Inventors:
Terry Nels - Beavercreek OH, US
Matthew Trippel - Dayton OH, US
Assignee:
Euroflamm Select Inc.
International Classification:
F16D069/00
US Classification:
192/10700R, 192/113360
Abstract:
A system and method are shown for reducing material in a core which receives a plurality of segments. The invention may further include a plurality of segmented pieces that are arranged to provide a plurality of gaps that lie in a predetermined sweep angle and that may comprise a scoop for facilitating channeling fluid into a gap between adjacent material segments. Various manufacturing approaches are also disclosed for manufacturing and assembling a ring for use in a traditional transmission or clutch plate manufacturing and assembly system.

2007027, Nov 22, 2007
Filed:
May 18, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/419023
Inventors:
JAMES MARTIN LEE - WATERTOWN NY, US
ERIC ARTHUR SCHUELER - MAINEVILLE OH, US
MATTHEW JOSEPH TRIPPEL - CENTERVILLE OH, US
Assignee:
SULZER EUROFLAMM US INC. - Dayton OH
International Classification:
B32B 3/06, D04B 7/12, D04B 9/14
US Classification:
442366, 442301, 428102, 66190
Abstract:
A system and method for providing a material for a friction element of a power transmission-absorption assembly and a method of making the material is disclosed. The material has preselected channel configuration which provides a plurality of channels defined at least in part by a pattern of stitches, such as a plurality of rows of stitches.

Wet-Laid Friction Material, System And Method

US Patent:
7488401, Feb 10, 2009
Filed:
Jul 11, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/178728
Inventors:
James Martin Lee - Watertown NY, US
Eric Arthur Schueler - Maineville OH, US
Matthew Joseph Trippel - Centerville OH, US
Assignee:
Sulzer Friction Systems (US) Inc. - Dayton OH
International Classification:
D21F 11/00
US Classification:
162141, 42831151, 442417, 442 73, 442101, 523149
Abstract:
This invention relates to a friction material and, more particularly, to a wet friction material capable of being manufactured using conventional paper-making processes. Long fibers are used to form a wet-laid homogeneous skeletal matrix, which is reinforced by dispersing particulate materials throughout the friction matrix and throughout the matrix binder, specifically at the interstices of adjacent fibers, to significantly increase the shear strength of the material while having a near negligible effect on fluid flow through the material.
