Bio-Fuel And Process For Making Bio-Fuel

US Patent:
7553982, Jun 30, 2009
Filed:
Aug 13, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/891910
Inventors:
Martin Allan Morris - Monticello IL, US
Assignee:
Bio-Alternative, LLC - Rantoul IL
International Classification:
C11C 3/00, C11D 3/20
US Classification:
554169, 510358, 554 1, 554163, 554167
Abstract:
A method of producing biodiesel from a source of triglycerides. The source of triglycerides is reacted with a blended alcohol composition in the presence of a catalyst to form a mixture of at least one fatty acid alcohol ester and glycerin. The fatty acid alcohol ester is then separated from the glycerin and is purified to produce a biofuel. The blended alcohol composition comprises at least one lower alcohol, a ketone and ethyl acetate. The use of the blended alcohol composition allows the esterfication process to proceed under ambient temperature and pressure conditions within a relatively short reaction time.

The use of the blended alcohol composition allows the transesterification process to proceed under ambient temperature and pressure conditions within a relatively short reaction time.

Mobile Biodiesel Production Facility

US Patent:
2012006, Mar 15, 2012
Filed:
Feb 10, 2010
Appl. No.:
13/147263
Inventors:
Martin Allan Morris - Monticello IL, US
Tony Khan - Champaign IL, US
Michael J. Henneman - Champaign IL, US
Jim Vollrath - Champaign IL, US
International Classification:
C10L 1/19, B01J 19/00
US Classification:
44388, 422187
Abstract:
A mobile biodiesel production facility comprising a shear mixer, a centrifuge, a control unit, and a plurality of pumps needed to pump the feedstocks and reactants. Upon mixing, the feedstock and reactant mixture becomes a reaction product. A residence tank collects the reaction product, where it rests for some time and self-converts to a residence product. The residence product is then pumped to the centrifuge, where the centrifuge separates the residence product into biodiesel and a heavy phase product. The control unit coordinates the operations of the shear mixer, centrifuge, and plurality of pumps.
