Spinal Surgery Distractor With An Integrated Retractor

US Patent:
2005028, Dec 29, 2005
Filed:
Oct 3, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/163018
Inventors:
Marshall Stauber - Hollywood FL, US
Assignee:
INVENTIT, LLC - Hollywood FL
International Classification:
A61B017/58
US Classification:
606090000
Abstract:
A spinal surgery retractor with a slotted keyway for integrating a keyed spinal distractor. This retractor and distractor combination slide together to displace a portion of the intervertebral disk space to restore or maintain intervertebral spacing and facilitate retraction of surrounding soft tissues while disk space surgery is performed. The distractor head and mating portion of the retractor(s)have matching profiles that enable the retractor to maintain distraction of the vertebra after removal of the distractor portion of the tool, permitting access to increase at the operating site. The retractor has convex curved surfaces that interface with a majority of retracted soft tissues during progression of the retraction process, which enhance retractor safety. In addition, the retractor portion of the tool has a proximally located section that is laterally flexible, which provides further progression in the retraction process while increasing relative access to the operating site. (1) Retractors—A pair of retractors used with either a matching distractor head having 2 keyway-sections for a bilateral version of the distractor head element or bilateral use of two distractor head elements.

Inventors:
Marshall Ephraim Stauber - Hollywood FL, US
International Classification:
A61B 10/02
US Classification:
600567
Abstract:
The instant invention describes a biopsy instrument which is useful in removal of tissue or fluid samples from a body, such as bone and soft tissue biopsy procedures. The biopsy instrument is an improvement over other biopsy needles currently in use in that the biopsy instrument according to the instant invention can be used to reduce the pain associated with specimen removal procedures. The biopsy instrument generally comprises an outer cannula and an inner medical probe member. The inner medical probe member is constructed and arranged to contain one or more fluid dispensing members for dispensing a fluid which are in fluid communication with a fluid dispensing device. In this arrangement, the user has the ability to continually inject fluids, such as anesthetizing agents, directly at or near the spot of specimen removal, without the need to remove the surgical instrument or use a separate fluid injecting needle.
