Skills:
Project Experience Contributed as the Structural Lead Engineer for a broad spectrum of construction projects for both government agencies and private industry; including industrial, power, manufacturing, transportation, environmental, commercial, institutional, and retail projects. Major projects have included coal-fired power plants, automobile assembly plants, railroad maintenance facilities, pulp and paper manufacturing facilities, environmental radioactive waste disposal facilities (DOE), D&D of nuclear process buildings (DOE), environmental radioactive waste remediation treatment facilities (DOE), steel production and fabrication plants, manufacturing facilities for defense contractors, medical research and hospital facilities, warehouses, shopping centers, parking structures, schools, and office buildings. Structural Design Experience Developed a broad expertise in analysis and design of a wide variety of construction practices and materials, including structural steel, reinforced concrete, composite design, and masonry. Proficient in structural steel design of buildings ranging from multi-story, braced frame industrial buildings to low rise, pre-engineered rigid frame warehouses. Experienced with the design of various foundation systems, such as shallow foundations, concrete caissons, piles, retaining walls, excavation shoring, and expansive soil problems. Responsibilities have included complete structural project design, from conceptual design and alternative studies, to preparation and checking of design criteria, calculations, specifications, and design drawings, to review of vendor submittals and field construction quality control. Mentored, supervised, and checked the design work of up to 10 junior engineers and CAD staff in the preparation of final design calculations, specifications, and drawings.Special Skills and Training Performed special analyses of structures and components for floor and equipment vibration damping, explosion venting, thermal stresses and expansion, high seismic criteria, and the treatment, transportation, containment, and disposal of radioactive contaminated waste. Demonstrated practical knowledge of the latest editions of the major codes and standards for developing the design criteria for loads on structures, including complex wind and seismic forces. Worked extensively with DOE Standards and Procedures based on ASCE 4-98, ASCE 7-05, and IBC 2009. Proficient in structural steel and connection design by both ASD and LRFD by AISC (15th ed.), and strength design of reinforced concrete by ACI (318 and 349). Trained in computer analyses and structural design applications such as STAAD-Pro, RISA 3D, RAMSteel, MathCad, Intergraph Microstation CAD, and AutoCAD. Also worked extensively with project integration tools, such as Smart Plant Foundation, using the project control procedures of FCNs, FCRs, NCRs, CDRs, and SDDRs.
