Automated Non-Magnetic Medical Monitor Using Piezoelectric Ceramic Diaphragm Devices

Automated Non-Magnetic Medical Monitor Using Piezoelectric Ceramic Diaphragm Devices

US Patent:
2010033, Dec 30, 2010
Filed:
Feb 2, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/918820
Inventors:
Mark Nelson - Satellite Beach FL, US
Assignee:
KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V. - EINDHOVEN
International Classification:
A61B 5/055
US Classification:
600411
Abstract:
In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the powerful magnetic fields can interfere with, damage, cause premature failure in, and attract certain non-MR safe instruments. Electromagnetic ally sensitive components are eliminated in favor of MR safe components, such as ceramic piezoelectric components and bi-metallic components. Instruments that previously had to be kept a safe distance away from the main magnet (), e.g., beyond the 5 Gauss line, while a patient was being scanned are now allowed near the patient without fear of damage to the instrument () or danger to the patient and medical staff or the MRI device ().

Optical Respiration Status Sensor

Optical Respiration Status Sensor

US Patent:
2012028, Nov 15, 2012
Filed:
Nov 18, 2010
Appl. No.:
13/510969
Inventors:
Eduardo M. Rey - Winter Springs FL, US
Mark D. Nelson - Satellite Beach FL, US
Harold J. Cates - Orlando FL, US
Assignee:
KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V. - EINDHOVEN
International Classification:
A61B 5/113, A61B 5/055
US Classification:
600413
Abstract:
A subject monitor includes a belt () that circumscribes a cyclically moving portion of a subject (), such as a chest cavity or abdomen. A optical sensing device () includes a housing; a tape () under tension to retract into the housing, at least one of the tape () and the housing are connected with the belt (); a lens () configured to focus light on a pattern () that moves with the tape (); and a photon detector () configured to detect light () reflected from the pattern (). An optical decoder () determines movement of the belt () from the light reflected () from the pattern ().

Dual Band Spiral-Shaped Antenna

Dual Band Spiral-Shaped Antenna

US Patent:
6856286, Feb 15, 2005
Filed:
Oct 31, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/285291
Inventors:
Young-Min Jo - Palm Bay FL, US
Young-Ki Kim - Palm Bay FL, US
Frank M. Caimi - Vero Beach FL, US
John Charles Farrar - Indialantic FL, US
Mark D. Nelson - Satellite Beach FL, US
Kerry Lane Greer - Palm Bay FL, US
Assignee:
SkyCross, Inc. - Melbourne FL
International Classification:
H01Q001/38, H01Q001/24
US Classification:
343700MS, 343702, 343895
Abstract:
A planar antenna comprising a spiral conductive surface comprising an inner spiral segment and an outer spiral segment. A shorting leg for connection to a ground plane and a feed leg responsive to the antenna signal (in the transmit and the receive modes) extend downwardly from the plane of the spiral segments. Performance characteristics of the antenna are responsive to the configuration and spacing of the spiral segments and the distance between the antenna and the ground plane.

Compact, Low Profile, Circular Polarization Cubic Antenna

Compact, Low Profile, Circular Polarization Cubic Antenna

US Patent:
6888510, May 3, 2005
Filed:
Aug 19, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/643760
Inventors:
Young-Min Jo - Rockledge FL, US
Michael H. Thursby - Palm Bay FL, US
Frank M. Caimi - Vero Beach FL, US
Kerry L. Greer - Melbourne Beach FL, US
Mark D. Nelson - Satellite Beach FL, US
John C. Farrar - Indialantic FL, US
Assignee:
SkyCross, Inc. - Melbourne FL
International Classification:
H01Q021/26
US Classification:
343797, 343700 MS
Abstract:
An antenna providing circular polarization for received and transmitted signals. The antenna comprises a vertical conductive surfaces oriented to form a closed structure and horizontal conductive surfaces forming a top face of the closed structure. Connection of selected vertical panels to a feed and ground, causes current flow in the vertical and horizontal surfaces that results in a circular polarized signal.

Fastener-Less Edge Launch Connector For Mr-Compatible Medical Monitoring

Fastener-Less Edge Launch Connector For Mr-Compatible Medical Monitoring

US Patent:
8564291, Oct 22, 2013
Filed:
Feb 2, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/919830
Inventors:
Mark D. Nelson - Satellite Beach FL, US
Eduardo M. Rey - Winter Springs FL, US
Robert A. Harwell - St. Cloud FL, US
Assignee:
Koninklijke Philips N.V. - Eindhoven
International Classification:
G01R 33/44
US Classification:
324309, 324322, 439 83
Abstract:
A robust MR compatible ECG monitor () includes a connector () for connecting ECG electrode leads () to an internal circuit board (). The connector () includes connector pins () that run parallel to the circuit board () and tangentially contact solder pads () of the circuit board () at the edge of the circuit board (), eliminating sharp or right angle turns in conduction paths. The connector prevents movement of the connections due to mechanical stresses in all ranges of motion relative to four degrees of freedom, including translation, pitching, yawing, and rolling.
