Apparatus For Database Record Locking And Method Therefor

US Patent:
6687709, Feb 3, 2004
Filed:
Jun 29, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/895980
Inventors:
Mark Joseph Williams - Austin TX
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
707103R, 707 1
Abstract:
A system and process for locking database records are implemented. A lock state is selectively set in response to a locking operation request. The lock state constitutes a class in an object-oriented locking service architecture. A locking operation corresponding to the locking operation request is performed on one or more records. The locking operation is implemented by a method of a lock state class in the object-oriented locking service architecture, the lock state class corresponding to a current lock state.

Autonomic Auto-Configuration Using Prior Installation Configuration Relationships

US Patent:
8234639, Jul 31, 2012
Filed:
Dec 31, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/967362
Inventors:
John C. Sanchez - Pflugerville TX, US
Lorin Evan Ullmann - Austin TX, US
Mark Williams - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 9/445, G06F 9/44
US Classification:
717177, 717172, 717173, 717174
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for installing software in a network data processing system. An event is detected in the network data processing system indicating that a software module is to be installed in a set of data processing systems in the network data processing system. A configuration of each data processing system in the set of data processing systems is discovered, and a set of instructions is created using a knowledge base of prior installations. The set of instructions is tailored for each data processing system in the set of data processing systems based on the configuration for the each data processing system in the set of data processing systems. The set of instructions for the software module to be installed is sent to the set of data processing systems.

Discrete Curve Symmetry Detection

US Patent:
7269286, Sep 11, 2007
Filed:
Jun 5, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/455141
Inventors:
Lothar Wenzel - Round Rock TX, US
Mark S. Williams - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
National Instruments Corporation - Austin TX
International Classification:
G06K 9/62, G06K 9/64, G06K 9/68, G06K 9/46
US Classification:
382203, 382209, 382216, 382217
Abstract:
System and method for detecting symmetries of discrete curves. A mapping operator is applied to a first discrete curve to amplify its features, generating a first mapped discrete curve. A correlation of the first mapped discrete curve with each of a plurality of rotationally shifted versions of a second mapped discrete curve is computed, generating a corresponding plurality of correlation values. A minimum period of the two curves is determined based on the correlation values, and, based on the minimum period, a symmetry group (SG) of the two curves is determined and output. If the two curves are the same curve, the SG is the rotational SG of the discrete curve. If the second curve is a reflection of the first, the SG is the mutual reflection SG of the first. If the first and second curves are different curves, the SG is the mutual SG of the two curves.

Parallel-Beam Scanning For Surface Patterning Of Materials

US Patent:
7371596, May 13, 2008
Filed:
Dec 30, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/027579
Inventors:
Lynn Millar, legal representative - Guerneville CA, US
John E. MacCrisken - Palo Alto CA, US
Mark S. Williams - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
Semicube, Inc. - Eden Prairie MN
International Classification:
H01L 21/00
US Classification:
438 44, 438 45, 257E21347
Abstract:
A system and method for parallel-beam scanning a surface. An energetic beam source emits an energetic collimated beam which is received by an optical device, comprising: one or more optical media, operable to receive the emitted beam, such as two pairs of coordinated mirrors or a right prism, and at least one actuator coupled to the one or more optical media, and operable to rotate each of the one or more optical media around a respective axis to perform a parallel displacement of the beam in a respective direction, wherein the respective direction, the beam, and the respective axis are mutually orthogonal. The optical device is operable to direct the beam to illuminate a sequence of specified regions of a surface.
