Cooling System For Electronic Equipment

US Patent:
7508666, Mar 24, 2009
Filed:
Jun 21, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/766306
Inventors:
Mark A. Henneberg - Olathe KS, US
Larry L. Johnson - Overland Park KS, US
Assignee:
Sprint Communications Company L.P. - Overland Park KS
International Classification:
H05K 7/20, F28F 7/00
US Classification:
361696, 165 804, 361695, 361701, 454184, 622592
Abstract:
A cooling solution includes a system providing thermal energy dissipation for electronic equipment located in support racks or cabinets of a facility. According to one embodiment, the system is integrated with a facility where the support cabinets are locate. The system providing thermal energy dissipation includes a cooling loop, a fan unit for moving air across the cooling loop and one or more ducts forming a confined flow pathway for the moving air between the fan unit and cabinets for delivery to the electronic equipment. More specifically, the cooling loop contains a supply of circulating heat absorbing fluid such that the heat absorbing fluid removes thermal energy from the air moved by the fan unit. Each cabinet is formed with an exhaust pathway such that the moving air enters the cabinet from the duct, flows across the electronic equipment to remove thermal energy therefrom, and exits the cabinet.

Failsafe Protection System For A Distributed Telecommunications Site

US Patent:
8380256, Feb 19, 2013
Filed:
Jul 17, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/778703
Inventors:
Mark Henneberg - Olathe KS, US
Kevin Kenny - Ashburn VA, US
Kenneth J. Graham - Parkville MO, US
Assignee:
Sprint Communications Company L.P. - Overland Park KS
International Classification:
H04B 1/38, H02J 3/12, G05F 1/10, G06F 1/00
US Classification:
455572, 323234, 713300
Abstract:
A failsafe protection system for a distributed telecommunications site ties power shut off to a network interface unit to power supply conditions at a base transceiver station. In one aspect, the system is integrated with circuitry at the distributed telecommunications site, and includes an electrical power supplying device, a low voltage disconnect and a relay coupled with a DC bus. Additionally, the failsafe protection system includes a first circuit pathway coupling the base transceiver station electronics to the low voltage disconnect and a second circuit pathway coupling the network interface unit to the DC bus through the relay. Both the low voltage disconnect and the relay selectively control the coupling of the base transceiver station and the network interface unit, respectively, with the DC bus.

Power System For A Telecommunications Facility

US Patent:
7615875, Nov 10, 2009
Filed:
Feb 2, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/670585
Inventors:
Mark A. Henneberg - Olathe KS, US
Larry L. Johnson - Overland Park KS, US
Assignee:
Sprint Communications Company L.P. - Overland Park KS
International Classification:
H02K 7/00
US Classification:
290 1A
Abstract:
A reliable power supply solution for a telecommunications site or facility provides a combined primary and backup source of electrical power. One aspect of the solution takes the form of a power system delivering power redundantly via a first fuel cell device and a second fuel cell device, both devices producing DC electrical power. The first fuel cell device may be configured to provide a steady state supply of DC electrical power to meet the demands of multiple types of telecommunications equipment at the facility, while the second fuel cell device may be configured to provide a more limited amount of DC electrical power specifically for continuous operation of one type of telecommunication circuitry component, such as a programmable logic circuit.
