Energy Efficient Construction Surfaces

Energy Efficient Construction Surfaces

US Patent:
2005014, Jun 30, 2005
Filed:
Dec 24, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/746829
Inventors:
Mark Anderson - Woodbury MN, US
Peter Fleming - Woodbury MN, US
Rachel Gould - Forest Lake MN, US
Christopher Gross - Lake Elmo MN, US
Daniel Pendergrass - Mendota Heights MN, US
International Classification:
B32B001/00
US Classification:
428143000
Abstract:
The present invention provides a non-white construction surface comprising a substrate, a first reflective coating on at least a portion of an outer surface of a substrate, such that the substrate with this first reflective coating exhibits a minimum direct solar reflectance value of at least about 25%, and a second reflective coating on at least a portion of the first reflective coating, wherein the combination of the first reflective coating and the second reflective coating provide the substrate with a reflectivity of at least about 20% at substantially all points in the wavelength range between 770 and 2500 nm.

Method For Manufacturing Silicate Waveguide Compositions For Extended L-Band And S-Band Amplification

Method For Manufacturing Silicate Waveguide Compositions For Extended L-Band And S-Band Amplification

US Patent:
2003015, Aug 21, 2003
Filed:
Dec 31, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/037731
Inventors:
Mark Anderson - Woodbury MN, US
Craig Schardt - Saint Paul MN, US
James Onstott - Dresser WI, US
Kent Budd - Woodbury MN, US
International Classification:
H01S003/00
US Classification:
359/341500
Abstract:
A method of making an erbium-doped optical fiber for use in optical amplifiers according to the present invention includes the step of providing a substrate tube. High purity silica-based cladding layers are deposited on the inside of the tube. A core glass that includes silica, Al, a non-fluorescent rare-earth ion, Ge, Er, and Tm is then deposited in the tube. The non-fluorescent rare-earth ion may be La and the core may further include F. The tube is then collapsed to form a preform. Finally, the preform is drawn to yield optical fiber. The core glass may be substantially homogeneous. The core may include at least two regions, wherein one region contains a substantially different Er to Tm ratio than the other region. Said regions may be in an annular arrangement. The core of such a waveguide may be made with multiple MCVD passes, multiple sol-gel passes or with multiple soot deposition, solution doping, and consolidation passes.

Filed:
Mar 14, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/375634
Inventors:
Mark T. Anderson - Woodbury MN, US
Rachael A. T. Gould - Forest Lake MN, US
Jeffry L. Jacobs - Stillwater MN, US
Assignee:
3M Innovative Properties Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
E01C 7/14, B28B 1/00, B28B 3/00, E01C 7/08
US Classification:
264256, 264330, 264333, 428404
Abstract:
A building element may be formed from a first cementitious mixture and a second cementitious mixture containing a photocatalytic cementitious mixture. The first cementitious mixture and the photocatalytic cementitious mixture may be co-formed into a shaped uncured two layer monolith having a base layer of the first cementitious mixture and a top layer of the photocatalytic cementitious mixture. The shaped uncured two layer monolith is then cured. The resulting building element may be algae-resistant.

Ink Receptor Media Suitable For Inkjet Printing

Ink Receptor Media Suitable For Inkjet Printing

US Patent:
6096469, Aug 1, 2000
Filed:
May 18, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/314794
Inventors:
Mark T. Anderson - Woodbury MN
Mark F. Schulz - Lake Elmo MN
Tadesse G. Nigatu - Maplewood MN
Assignee:
3M Innovative Properties Company - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
G03G 908, B32B 904, C01B 3312
US Classification:
430119
Abstract:
The ink receptor media of the invention comprise an ink receptor comprising surfactant templated mesoporous particles dispersed within an organic binder on the substrate. The ink receptor media may also have an ink fixing material within or on the ink receptor. The invention also describes surfactant templated silica particles having a narrow particle size distribution and having intraparticle pore sizes of about 1. 5 to about 10 nm and methods of preparing said particles. The invention also describes a colloidal dispersion of STM particles methods of making said dispersions.

Adhesion Promoting End Treatment System And Method For Girth-Welds

US Patent:
2007024, Oct 18, 2007
Filed:
Apr 9, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/697965
Inventors:
Mark K. Nestegard - Mendota Heights MN, US
Mark T. Anderson - Woodbury MN, US

Mario A. Perez - Burnsville MN, US
International Classification:
F16L 9/14
US Classification:
138145, 138146
Abstract:
A pipe includes an outer surface with a polyolefin-based protective coating covering a substantial portion thereof In addition, an end wrap material is disposed on the protective coating proximate to an end of the pipe, where the end wrap material is bondable to a polymer-containing protective material, such as a heat shrink sleeve or cover. The end wrap material can bond a heat shrink cover or sleeve in place over a girth-weld, thus substantially reducing the likelihood of the disbandment or movement of the sleeve from the welded pipe ends over time.
