Maricela Jauregui: a branch manager with Mid Cities Credit Union, is described by her colleagues as an energetic, highly motivated manager that shows a true commitment to the credit union spirit of “People Helping People.” Jauregui is humbled by the accolades. “I’m still in shock, never having won anything like this, an award well-recognized throughout the credit union industry--it's just a great honor,” said Jauregui, who started her credit union journey in August 1996 as a part-time teller at Hughes Aircraft EFCU (now Kinecta FCU)
Her accomplishments thus far are many. She helped SchoolsFirst FCU with the launch of Communidad Latina FCU, a credit union that serves the underserved Hispanic population in Santa Ana. She has presented to more than 500 people through numerous seminars in both English and Spanish on topics such as credit scores and home buying throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties. And in the past year she has taken Mid Cities’ Balance Financial Fitness member course completions from zero participation to over 300 through innovative engagement strategies such as requiring budgeting classes for Second Chance Checking accounts and offering payday lending rebates for taking credit classes. Most recently Jauregui attended the Sacramento Hike the Hill and is a first-year WCMS student.Jauregui feels the credit union industry has changed for the better since she’s started. “I feel like this is our time to shine, during these tough times,” she added. “Helping people achieve their financial goals is my passion. To be a part of those life-changing events.
She is most proud of her work at Mid Cities and being able to see the impact in growth and success in such a short period of time. “What I’m most proud of is ending the year with a 12-percent membership growth, focusing on the underserved Hispanic community and offering quarterly educational seminars in English and Spanish to the community, while earning their trust and life-long relationship.”
