Abstract:

An arm support and positioning assembly is provided that includes a vertical member, an engagement member and a horizontal member having one end engaged with the vertical member through a ball joint assembly and the other end affixed with the engagement member through a wedge lock. The engagement member receives and retains a patient's arm support during the surgical or medical procedures. The vertical member is attached to the clamp support assembly affixed with the operating table. The ball joint assembly includes a first hinge plate, a second hinge plate, and a ball joint having an elongated ball neck on one end and a spherical ball on other end. The ball shape end allows the horizontal member to rotate at a varied angular position with respect to the vertical member thereby providing a greater degree of adjustability to the surgeon.

Abstract:

A method and system is provided for repairing bone fractures at locations where high levels of stability are required. The system employs two plates to buttress a fracture from both the dorsal and volar sides. The plates are affixed to one another using screws that are installed from a volar plate, through the bone and into a dorsal plate. The method provides for use of a directional guide that allows the precise placement of Kirschner wires for temporary fixation of the fracture, installation of a first bone fixation plate using the installed K-wires for alignment, installation of a second bone plate adjacent the bone to be repaired and opposite the first bone plate, and installation of cannulated fasteners between the two opposing bone plates such that the fasteners rigidly engage both of the bone plates.

Abstract:

A clamp assembly for use in connection with an operating table rail is disclosed. The clamp assembly includes a top clamp member, a base clamp member and an operating lever to move the top clamp member relative to the base clamp member. The base clamp member and the top clamp member include complimentary V-shaped channels that allow the clamp assembly of the present invention to be installed on the sterile side of the surgical field. The base clamp member is provided with dual guide pins and an actuator pin, extending upwards from the base clamp member and through the top clamp member. The actuator pin is affixed with a fastening means to engage the top of the actuator pin and the base clamp member together. Further, the base clamp member includes apertures for receiving various surgical support fixtures.
