Method Of Making A Power-Pack Assembly

Method Of Making A Power-Pack Assembly

US Patent:
4044458, Aug 30, 1977
Filed:
Apr 19, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/678078
Inventors:
Luther T. Prince - Minneapolis MN
Assignee:
Ault Incorporated - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
H01F 4110
US Classification:
29605
Abstract:
A power-pack assembly including a bobbin, at least primary and secondary windings wound on the bobbin and a core carried by the bobbin. Solderless connection devices are secured to the bobbin and electrically connected to the windings. The solderless connection devices include clips which engage input and output terminals to make an electrical and mechanical connection therewith. In a preferred embodiment, the terminals are carried by a terminal block which provides a single step plug-in connection between the connection devices and the terminals. A core-grounding system is also disclosed which includes a core-grounding terminal, a spring for electrically contacting the core and a clip secured to the bobbin for engaging the core-grounding terminal and maintaining it in electrical contact with the spring. The core-grounding terminal may be carried by the terminal block for plug-in connection to its clip during the single step plug-in connection of the solderless connection devices and the input and output terminals.

Automatic Dual Mode Battery Charger

Automatic Dual Mode Battery Charger

US Patent:
4233553, Nov 11, 1980
Filed:
May 10, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/904517
Inventors:
Luther T. Prince - Minneapolis MN
Wilbur J. Hampel - Spring Park MN
Michael A. Boot - Minneapolis MN
Assignee:
Ault, Inc. - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
H02J 704
US Classification:
320 23
Abstract:
This invention relates to automatic dual mode battery charging circuit which includes rectifying means and an adjustable voltage rectifier energized by the rectifying means and providing an output to a battery to be charged. The circuit includes a voltage controller connected to the voltage regulator means to set the level of voltage output from the voltage regulator and hence the charging current to the battery. The voltage regulating means provides two modes of operation, namely, a fast charge and a float mode of operation. A current detector connecting in series circuit with the voltage regulator and the battery provides a means for detecting current flow through the battery and controls the operation of the voltage controller, to change the output of the voltage regulating means between the two modes of operation.

Plug In Regulating Power Supply

Plug In Regulating Power Supply

US Patent:
4039900, Aug 2, 1977
Filed:
Mar 18, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/668069
Inventors:
Donald W. Roback - New Brighton MN
Wilbur J. Hampel - Wayzata MN
Luther T. Prince - Minneapolis MN
Dean L. Huppert - Edina MN
Assignee:
Ault, Inc. - Minneapolis MN
International Classification:
H05K 720
US Classification:
361388
Abstract:
A plug in power supply incorporating a ferro resonant transformer mounted on a pair of opposite "E" laminations to provide a low profile magnetic circuit and windings thereon combined with an electronic voltage regulator in which the regulation required therefrom because of the transformer regulation is relatively low and the electronic power component thereof will therefore not be required to dissipate a large amount of power. This enables packaging in a sealed container with a heat sink mounting the power transistor to uniformly distribute the heat thereon and provide a safe plug in power supply.
