Method And Means For Converting A Crop Pickup On A Crop Processing Machine Between Field And Transport Modes

US Patent:
4058958, Nov 22, 1977
Filed:
Mar 24, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/670191
Inventors:
Loren G. Sadler - Stevens PA
Aquila D. Mast - Lancaster PA
Assignee:
Sperry Rand Corporation - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01D 7522
US Classification:
56228
Abstract:
A tractor mounted forage harvester includes a transverse hitch bar or frame, a crop processing unit mounted on the frame and a windrow pickup unit releasably attached to the front of the crop processing unit during the field operating mode. The total width of the harvester is reduced when converted to the transport mode by uncoupling the pickup unit, moving the same to the rear of the processing unit and the tractor, and coupling it to the frame via a subframe mounted thereon such that the major axis of the pickup unit is maintained in the same transverse relationship to the direction of movement of the forage harvester as when the unit is attached to the front of the processing unit.

Drive Mechanism For A Manure Spreader

US Patent:
4498630, Feb 12, 1985
Filed:
Aug 30, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/413106
Inventors:
Loren G. Sadler - Stevens PA
Assignee:
Sperry Corporation - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01C 1700
US Classification:
239677
Abstract:
A manure spreader including a rotary distributor at the rear end and an endless apron having a span movable along the bottom of the body is powered from a p. t. o. or the like from a tractor to drive the distributor at a predetermined rate while the speed of the apron may be varied between slow, fast and very fast by variable drive mechanism adjacent the rear end of the body and includes a jaw clutch associated with the distributor, a slidable clutch member movable selectively between driven sprocket gears respectively for relatively slow and fast drive of the apron, together with a direct drive connection between a main drive shaft and a secondary drive shaft connected to the apron to provide a very fast speed for the apron while the distributor is idle to effect a fast cleanout of the body at the end of distributing a load of manure. The direct drive referred to is supplemented by an overriding clutch.

Means For Converting A Pickup On A Crop Treating Machine Between Field And Transport Positions

US Patent:
3936994, Feb 10, 1976
Filed:
Mar 28, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/455699
Inventors:
Frans Henri Mortier - Maldegem, BE
Willy Rene Evarist Dekeyser - Vladslo, BE
Loren Gage Sadler - Stevens PA
Assignee:
Sperry Rand Corporation - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01D 7522
US Classification:
56228
Abstract:
A series of rollers mounted at spaced locations on a windrow pickup about a rear discharge opening defined therein interengage with a circular track mounted on a crop material chopping chamber of a forage harvester and at least partially encircling a front receiving opening defined therein to continuously support the pickup on the chopping chamber in an operating field position, in a non-operating transport position and for pivotal movement relative thereto between the field and transport positions. The interengaging series of rollers and circular track are moveable relative to each other to provide pivotal movement of the pickup relative to the chopping chamber between the field and transport positions within a plane extending in a generally transverse relationship to the direction of movement of the forage harvester across the field and about a pivotal axis located generally at the center of curvature of the circular track.

Manure Spreader Drive System

US Patent:
4819880, Apr 11, 1989
Filed:
Sep 5, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/647945
Inventors:
Gilbert W. Linde - Oxford PA
Loren G. Sadler - Stevens PA
Assignee:
Ford New Holland, Inc. - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01C 2300, A01C 1900
US Classification:
239662
Abstract:
In a manure spreader for handling slurry material, an auger is mounted in the bottom of a tank and an expeller is disposed at an opening in the tank to discharge material therefrom. A drive system is provided to rotate the auger and the expeller in different directions when the drive system is connected to a tractor PTO. the drive system includes a series of drive members such as chains and sprockets arranged and connected to cause rotation of the expeller in the same direction as the tractor PTO and rotation of the auger in the opposite direction at a substantially slower speed than the expeller.

Manure Spreader Paddle Attachment

US Patent:
4187988, Feb 12, 1980
Filed:
Dec 4, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/966445
Inventors:
Warren H. Brackbill - Paradise PA
Loren G. Sadler - Stevens PA
Assignee:
Sperry Rand Corporation - New Holland PA
International Classification:
A01C 2300
US Classification:
239662
Abstract:
A manure spreader paddle attachment is disclosed wherein a flexible extension is attached to the trailing face of the manure spreader paddle. This extension covers the outer peripheral toothed edge of the paddle to provide a capability for the paddle to scoop up and discharge liquified material yet deflects when the paddle encounters tough pen-packed material to permit the teeth to engage, shred and discharge the more solidified material.
