Generating An Analytical Energy Model

US Patent:
2013008, Apr 4, 2013
Filed:
Sep 30, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/250213
Inventors:
Kyle Bernhardt - Newton MA, US
Lillian M. Smith - Cambridge MA, US
Jack Conrad Gray - Cambridge MA, US
Nathan Lockwood - Lunenburg MA, US
International Classification:
G06F 17/50
US Classification:
703 1
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a system, for generating an analytical energy model from a conceptual representation or a mass form model. In one aspect, actions include receiving a conceptual representation of a building including one or more user-defined floor levels and multiple surfaces defining volumetric space, and, responsive to a request to generate an analytical energy model, automatically generating the analytical energy model by: deriving geometric information from the conceptual representation; defining one or more mass volumes; algorithmically assigning one or more surface types to mass volume surfaces; defining one or more thermal mass zones based on the mass volumes and a corresponding number of user-defined floor levels; deriving thermal properties of the one or more thermal mass zones; and combining the defined one or more thermal mass zones, the derived thermal properties, and predefined analytical energy model parameters to generate the analytical energy model.

Method And Apparatus For Illustrating Progress In Achieving A Goal In A Computer Program Task

US Patent:
2010012, May 13, 2010
Filed:
Nov 7, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/266825
Inventors:
Lillian M. Smith - Cambridge MA, US
Gregory L. Demchak - Cambridge MA, US
Assignee:
AUTODESK, INC. - San Rafael CA
International Classification:
G06F 3/048
US Classification:
715772
Abstract:
A method, apparatus and article of manufacture for illustrating progress in achieving a goal of a system modeled by a computer program. In one embodiment, the invention is evidenced by a method comprising the steps of displaying a widget wherein the widget comprises a center portion representing a category of data represented by the computer program and the category of data includes n data points that must be fulfilled to achieve the goal and an outer portion, comprising a segment representing each one of the n data points; and updating the widget to represent each of the n data points that has been fulfilled by delineating each segment representing a fulfilled data point requirement from each segment representing a non-fulfilled data point requirement.

Generating Thermal Zones

US Patent:
2013006, Mar 14, 2013
Filed:
Sep 6, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/605743
Inventors:
Lillian M. Smith - Cambridge MA, US
John F. Kennedy - Santa Rosa CA, US
Markus Bonn - Columbus OH, US
Aryn Bergman - San Francisco CA, US
Ian Molloy - Waltham MA, US
Jing Lan - Shanghai, CN
International Classification:
G05D 23/00
US Classification:
700277
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a storage medium, for generating thermal zones. In one aspect, a method includes identifying a perimeter zone for a first portion of a conceptual representation of a building; and dividing the perimeter zone into a plurality of thermal zones, comprising: determining a plurality of first candidate thermal zones based at least in part on a maximum thermal zone angle threshold that each of the first candidate thermal zones satisfy, determining a plurality of second candidate thermal zones based at least in part on a maximum thermal zone length threshold that each of the second candidate thermal zones satisfy, and selecting a plurality of thermal zones from the first candidate thermal zones and the second candidate thermal zones.
