Low Friction Cleaner For Magnetic Transducer Head

US Patent:
4661874, Apr 28, 1987
Filed:
Jun 1, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/616554
Inventors:
G. Thomas Buehl - Columbia MO
Leemer Cernohlavek - Fulton MO
Assignee:
International Jensen Incorporated - Schiller Park IL
International Classification:
G11B 541
US Classification:
360128
Abstract:
A cleaning tape for an apparatus of the type which includes a magnetic head and a drive mechanism for the head includes a cleaning member adapted to be moved past the magnetic head during a cleaning operation. The cleaning tape defines an array of raised surfaces, at least some of which are separated by smooth, low friction surfaces interposed therebetween. The raised surfaces and low friction surfaces are arranged such that both the raised surfaces and the low friction surfaces alternately come into contact with the magnetic head during a cleaning operation. The raised surfaces are effective to clean the magnetic head, and the low friction surfaces are effective to reduce friction between the cleaning member and the magnetic head to protect the drive mechanism against excessive frictional loading. A press forming method is disclosed for fabricating the cleaning tape.

Single-Loop Chromatography System And Method

US Patent:
5091092, Feb 25, 1992
Filed:
May 3, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/347519
Inventors:
Daniel L. Newhouse - Harrisburg MO
Leemer Cernohlavek - Fulton MO
Philip D. Lochhaas - Ashland MO
Assignee:
Analytical Bio-Chemistry Laboratories, Inc. - Columbia MO
International Classification:
B01D 3508, G01N 2506
US Classification:
210635
Abstract:
Automated gel permeation chromatography of multiple individual samples is effected with high precision and high speed utilizing a common sample sizing loop into which each sample is placed prior to its injection into the chromatography column, thereby eliminating the need for precisely matched sample loops. Each sample is pre-stored in its own container, the containers being automatically sequentially accessed to feed a portion of the contained sample medium to the common sample sizing loop. The common sample flow path, including the sample sizing loop is automatically cleaned with rinse solvent between loading of successive samples into the sizing loop. Multiple programs may be employed to control the processing times for different types of sample fluid. A sample container closure member having a unique sealing insert member is provided to preclude leakage of fluid from the sample storage container when the container is pressurized.

Solvent Extraction Method And Apparatus For Recovering Analytes

US Patent:
5384023, Jan 24, 1995
Filed:
Jun 7, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/072021
Inventors:
David L. Stalling - Columbia MO
Thomas S. Wood - Columbia MO
Kevin P. Kelly - Columbia MO
Leemer G. Cernohlavek - Fulton MO
Philip D. Lochhaas - Columbia MO
Loren C. Schrier - Hallsville MO
David M. Strumpf - Columbia MO
Assignee:
Analytical Bio-Chemistry Laboratories, Inc. - Columbia MO
International Classification:
B01D 1706, B03C 500
US Classification:
204186
Abstract:
An improved liquid/liquid solvent extraction method and apparatus utilizes an external electrode for creating an electric field within an extraction cell to shatter aqueous sample droplets flowing within a non-conductive solvent. The external electrode is in intimate contact with the exterior surface of the insulative cell wall so as to preclude direct electrical contact between the electrode and the internal liquids. A sample interface detector permits the interface between the two liquids to be detected when the liquids sequentially flow out from the cell, thereby facilitating separate collection of the liquid. Interface detection is achieved by coupling electrical pulses into the flowing liquid to cause ionization charge/discharge cycles in the conductive aqueous sample but not in the non-conductive solvent. Downstream detection of the charge/discharge cycle in the liquid identifies the interface.
