At our clinic, we treat the "person behind the pain". It is more important to help the patient return to their valued life activities than to try medicate the pain down to a zero without consideration of side effects. I enjoy educating patients on their role in pain management, and serving as a "coach" to help them with depression, anxiety, communication, sleep and other health issues, pacing their activities, accepting their life stresses, etc. I use a cognitive-behavioral approach, helping individuals change their perspective and negative thoughts as well as improve their healthy behaviors for the best quality of life outcomes.
