Ergonomic Wheelchair With Patient Lifting Mechanism

US Patent:
6454285, Sep 24, 2002
Filed:
Jun 16, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/595530
Inventors:
Larry Koenig - Williamsburg IA 52361
International Classification:
B62M 114
US Classification:
2802501, 280 4324, 188 2 F, 188 5
Abstract:
A wheelchair for use in care facilities includes a seat lift mechanism and a chair tilt mechanism both of which are actuated by a single lever. Operation of the lever elevates the rear of the seat and raises the rear of the wheelchair thereby moving the wheelchair occupant toward a standing position and reduces the lifting effort of the attendant in assisting the debilitated patient to move out of the wheelchair.

Hand Truck Having Ground Engaging Lever For Tilting

US Patent:
6237925, May 29, 2001
Filed:
Jun 15, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/332859
Inventors:
Larry D. Koenig - Williamsburg IA
International Classification:
B62B 100
US Classification:
280 4729
Abstract:
A hand truck having ground engaging members which tilt the hand truck under conditions of greater leverage than that available by grasping the frame of the hand truck. The ground engaging members are journaled to the frame of the hand truck. In one embodiment, the ground engaging members assume the entire weight of the loaded hand truck. In another embodiment, the ground engaging members push the front end of the hand truck upwardly, employing the wheels as a fulcrum. In the second embodiment, the wheels remain in contact with the ground. In the first embodiment, the ground engaging members serve also as a fulcrum, allowing the wheels to be elevated off the ground. In both embodiments, the ground engaging members are powered either by a foot operated lever or a hand operated lever. In the first embodiment, the foot or hand operated lever is rigidly fixed to the ground engaging members. In the second embodiment, the foot or hand operated lever is a separate part which moves flippers by a multipart linkage.

Hand Truck With Retracting Load Shifting Lever

US Patent:
6851685, Feb 8, 2005
Filed:
Nov 7, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/289284
Inventors:
Larry D. Koenig - Williamsburg IA, US
International Classification:
B62B001/00
US Classification:
280 4727, 280 4728, 280 4729
Abstract:
A hand truck having load shifting member which tilts the hand truck under conditions of greater leverage than that available by grasping the frame of the hand truck is disclosed. The load shifting member comprises a spring retracting lever rotatably attached to an axle journaled from the frame of the hand truck such that when in a retracted position, the lever is substantially parallel to the frame. Pulling on the upper end of the lever rotates the lever such that the lower end of the lever engages the lower portion of the hand truck frame, shifting the center of gravity of the loaded hand truck such that it may be more easily tilted to a position for moving the hand truck. A spring returns the lever to a retracted position when not in use.

Exercise Apparatus For Leg Muscles

US Patent:
6312365, Nov 6, 2001
Filed:
Mar 30, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/539173
Inventors:
Larry D. Koenig - Williamsburg IA
Assignee:
M'N Fitness Corp. - Altus OK
International Classification:
A63B 2108
US Classification:
482 97
Abstract:
Exercise apparatus for the calf muscles of the legs includes a foot platform which may rock forward and rearward on the base of the apparatus. A lateral arm is supported above the base and has spaced shoulder engagement arms which overlie the foot platform. The lateral arm is raised and lowered by the action of a user rocking back and forth on the foot platform. The lateral arm is linked to a weight arm which is raised and lowered with the movement of the lateral arm. Free circular weight plates can be suspended on the weight arms.

Rowing Exercise Apparatus For Use While Standing

US Patent:
5957817, Sep 28, 1999
Filed:
Aug 19, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/136562
Inventors:
Larry Koenig - Williamsburg IA
Lyle Hyke - Lisbon IA
Assignee:
Jam'n Fitness Corp. - Williamsburg IA
International Classification:
H63B 2106
US Classification:
482 72
Abstract:
An improved exercise apparatus for muscles of the upper extremities, mid-back, and posterior shoulder girdle provides negative variable resistance as the muscles are contracted over a wide range of motion while maintaining proper joint alignment in the shoulders, elbows, and wrists. A movable weight carrying assembly has a transverse handlebar from the ends of which extend handle members which the user grasps to pivot the weight carrying assembly toward himself or herself while moving the arms from an outstretched position to a position with the elbows flexed, scapulae adducted, and the trapezius muscles contracted in a shrugging action. The weight carrying assembly is adjustable for varying heights of user.

Exercise Apparatus For Lower Extremities

US Patent:
5897473, Apr 27, 1999
Filed:
Jun 26, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/105288
Inventors:
Larry Koenig - Williamsburg IA
Assignee:
Jam'n Fitness Corp. - Williamsburg IA
International Classification:
A63B 2106, A63B 2304
US Classification:
482 97
Abstract:
Exercise apparatus for building strength in the lower extremities while reducing the risk of injury to knee joints. A bench provides a surface on which a user may lie in a prone position. A pivot support member stands beside the bench. A weight-bearing lever is pivotable upon the pivot support member at a horizontal pivot located alongside the bench for the user. A second pivotable lever which has a cushioned leg bar mounted to it is pivotable about a second pivot point on the pivot support member. An arm depends below and perpendicularly to the second pivotable lever. A roller bearing extends from the arm and is received by a bearing race fixed to the underside of the weight-bearing lever. As a user lying prone on the bench moves the leg bar upward by flexion of the leg muscles below the knee, the roller urges the weight-bearing lever upward. The Rolling Fulcrum. TM.

Exercise Machine For Upper Extremities

US Patent:
6179757, Jan 30, 2001
Filed:
Dec 9, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/208186
Inventors:
Larry Koenig - Williamsburg IA
Assignee:
Jam'n Fitness Corp. - Williamsburg IA
International Classification:
A63B 2108, A63B 2302
US Classification:
482 97
Abstract:
Exercise apparatus for strengthening the arm, shoulder, and back muscles. A weight bearing bar capable of holding free weights is moved through a path as the user draws a pair of elongate handles over the front of the body. As the weight bearing bar is moved, the moment arm of the weight is reduced, thereby reducing the effort required to draw the elongate levers downward as the leverage of the user's muscles declines. The elongate handles are mounted to a moveable assembly which is rotatable over a limited range and also is pivotable toward the user. The apparatus may be placed in a storage position when use is complete.
