Facet Joint Prosthesis

US Patent:
2011023, Sep 22, 2011
Filed:
Apr 15, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/087600
Inventors:
Stephan J. Duplessis - Calgary, CA
R. John Hurlbert - Calgary, CA
Lali Sekhon - Reno NV, US
Assignee:
KINETIC SPINE TECHNOLOGIES INC. - Calgary
International Classification:
A61B 17/70
US Classification:
606247
Abstract:
A facet joint prosthesis comprises a pair of facet elements for engaging the superior and inferior articular processes of a facet joint. The facet elements are provided with one or more articulating surfaces for articulating movement there-between. The facet elements are also provided with a positive engagement means for preventing separation of the elements and/or to limit relative movement there-between within a pre-determined range. In one aspect, the invention provides a spacer for positioning between the facet elements and for distracting the facet joint. The spacer may also serve to form an artificial lateral mass between the superior and inferior articulating surfaces. The spacer may be provided with engagement means for positively engaging one or both of the facet elements.

Artificial Intervertebral Spacer

US Patent:
8603176, Dec 10, 2013
Filed:
Oct 21, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/909700
Inventors:
Stephan J. Duplessis - Calgary, CA
R. John Hurlbert - Calgary, CA
Lali Sekhon - Reno NV, US
Assignee:
Kinetic Spine Technologies Inc. - Calgary, Alberta
International Classification:
A61F 2/44
US Classification:
623 1716, 623 1711, 623 1715
Abstract:
An artificial intervertebral spacer comprises a first arm and a second arm, each of the arms having first and second ends and wherein the first ends of each of the arms are connected together and wherein the second ends of each of the arms are generally separated from each other and divergently extend in a common direction. In a preferred embodiment, the first ends of the arms are joined to form a third arm. In a further preferred embodiment, the spacer comprises a generally Y-shaped structure. In other embodiments, at least two spacers are combined to provide an intervertebral distracting device.

Artificial Intervertebral Disc

US Patent:
2008006, Mar 13, 2008
Filed:
Oct 30, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/978872
Inventors:
R. Hurlbert - Calgary, CA
Stephan Duplessis - Calgary, CA
Lali Sekhon - Reno NV, US
Assignee:
KINETIC SPINE TECHNOLOGIES, INC. - Calgary
International Classification:
A61F 2/44
US Classification:
623017130, 623017150
Abstract:
An artificial intervertebral disc for implantation between two adjacent vertebrae includes an outer casing, an inner casing contained within the outer casing, and a resilient nucleus contained within the inner casing. The inner and outer casings are formed, respectively, by two interlocking members. The resilient nucleus is biased against the two members forming the inner casing, thereby elastically separating same. The artificial disc includes various resistance means for restricting and limiting the range of rotational and translational motion between
