Multi-Layer Recirculating Filter Wastewater Treatment Apparatus

US Patent:
6132599, Oct 17, 2000
Filed:
May 10, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/309047
Inventors:
Kevin R. Chaffee - Batesville IN
Assignee:
Earthtek Enviromental Systems, Inc. - Batesville IN
International Classification:
B01D 3500
US Classification:
210 86
Abstract:
A wastewater treatment unit (10) includes a recirculation chamber (32), a dosing chamber (34) having no direct fluid connection to the recirculation chamber, and at least two filter layers (28,30) in a single tank (12). Each filter layer contains filter media (56) and is located atop the recirculation and dosing chambers. The wastewater treatment unit also includes an influent pipe (50) connected to the recirculation chamber, a recirculation pump (72), a recirculation valve (74), and an effluent discharge pipe (88) connected to the dosing chamber. In operation, the influent pipe directs wastewater entering the unit into the recirculation chamber. The recirculation pump feeds wastewater from the recirculation chamber onto the filter layers. The recirculation valve then directs the filtrate back to the recirculation and dosing chambers. The filtrate is then discharged from the unit via the effluent discharge pipe.

Wastewater Treatment Apparatus Including Dosing And Recirculation Chambers Within A Single Tank

US Patent:
6974536, Dec 13, 2005
Filed:
Jan 21, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/348497
Inventors:
Kevin R. Chaffee - Batesville IN, US
International Classification:
C02F003/04
US Classification:
210 85, 210 86, 210104, 210196, 210291, 210170, 210206, 2105322
Abstract:
An apparatus provides for treatment of primary effluent from residential and commercial establishments to allow subsurface or surface disposable of wastewater. A single tank includes dosing and recirculation chambers having no direct fluid communication therebetween and divided by a vertical chamber wall A filter layer is positioned atop both chambers such that wastewater that is filtered therein then flows into both the dosing and recirculation chambers. The position of the wall determines the proportion of filtered wastewater that flows into each chamber by gravity.

Submersible Media-Filled Wastewater Treatment Filter

US Patent:
2010007, Apr 1, 2010
Filed:
Jan 20, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/523860
Inventors:
Kevin R. Chaffee - Batesville IN, US
Patrick W Hanlon - Sunman IN, US
International Classification:
B01D 25/38
US Classification:
210226
Abstract:
An submersible media-filled wastewater treatment filter () for use with a septic tank () or other treatment unit utilizes a special media () to provide solids separation and biological treatment within the filter unit. The media is a highly compressible material with a large surface area to volume ratio. As microorganisms that provide biological treatment of the wastewater flowing therethough grow and multiply in the filter media, the pores of the media may become clogged with biomass and require flushing. The filter provides for in place regeneration of the media. For example, a tool () can be used from above the ground surface to compress the media (), thus flushing the accumulated solids out of the filter media and into the tank () in which it is installed.

Septic Tank Wastewater Treatment System

US Patent:
2010001, Jan 21, 2010
Filed:
Jan 20, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/523859
Inventors:
Kevin R. Chaffee - Batesville IN, US
International Classification:
B01D 12/00, B01D 21/30, B01D 21/34, C02F 1/20
US Classification:
210 86, 2105322, 210521, 210137, 210188
Abstract:
A simple and improved septic tank wastewater treatment system is needed to improve effluent quality and reduce conventional onsite system failures such as hydraulic overloading and formation of a clogging biomat in the soil treatment area. One illustrative embodiment of the septic tank system () disclosed includes a septic tank system having a primary treatment compartment () for settling solids and floating fats, oils and grease, and a second treatment compartment () adapted to provide an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) process for providing additional treatment of the wastewater prior to discharge to soil treatment areas. Another illustrative embodiment of the septic tank system includes separate primary () and UASB tanks () coupled in series.

Subsurface Wastewater Infiltration System

US Patent:
2004026, Dec 30, 2004
Filed:
Apr 16, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/825768
Inventors:
Kevin Chaffee - Batesville IN, US
International Classification:
E02B011/00
US Classification:
405/043000
Abstract:
A subsurface wastewater infiltration system including a subsurface dripline enclosed within a porous medium or chamber providing storage volume around the dripline. The porous medium or chamber may be covered with a geotextile or filter material and sealed at dripline inlet and outlet to prevent soil intrusion. The chamber illustratively contains access openings to the ground surface allowing inspection and maintenance of the disposal system without excavation. The access openings provide air recirculation within the disposal system for proper operation and treatment of the effluent.
