Filed:
May 22, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/576364
Inventors:
Ziba Morisi - Katy TX

Kevin Patrick Zaeringer - Metairie LA
Dennis Earl Calkins - Katy TX
Assignee:
J. Ray McDermott, S.A. - Housto TX
International Classification:

US Classification:
405158, 405173
Abstract:
A pipeline recovery tool is made from steel plates welded together instead of forging and machining. The rigged-up tool is lowered over the pipeline and engaged with the pipeline such that a fixed claw engages the collar on the pipeline. An ROV is used to cause a movable dog on the tool to engage the collar and then lock the fixed claw in position. Rigging on the fixed claw side of the tool is released. The pipeline is then lifted to the surface by a lift arm on the first end of the tool.

Assignee:
J. Ray McDermott, S.A. - New Orleans LA
International Classification:
B63B 2708
US Classification:
4141417
Abstract:
A deep water lowering apparatus that utilizes dual davit structures mounted on a barge. Each davit structure has a pulling wire rope line spooled on a storage winch. Each pulling line is reeved onto a traction winch and through upper and lower sheaves on the davit structure. Corresponding ends of each pulling line are connected together on an equalizer beam. An adaptor box is suspended from a spreader bar provided with a dog leg center portion for effecting the load transfer from the crane. The lowering tool that supports the load is directly received in the adaptor box and transfers the load to the lowering apparatus without the need for rigging work.

Pile Handling Tool

US Patent:
5540523, Jul 30, 1996
Filed:
Mar 29, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/413145
Inventors:
Robert A. Foret - New Orleans LA
George Gernon - Houma LA
Jesse R. Wilkins - Picayune MS
Kevin P. Zaeringer - Metairie LA
Dale Zeringue - Houma LA
Assignee:
McDermott International, Inc. - New Orleans LA
International Classification:
E02D 700
US Classification:
405232
Abstract:
A pile handling tool for use in lowering and stabbing a pile underwater. The tool incorporates a simple release mechanism to engage or disengage the tool from the pile using an ROV. A sleeve is sized to be received over the top end of the pile. A lifting eye is provided on the top of the sleeve. A stop plate is provided in the sleeve that allows it to rest on top of the pile. A pile centralizer provided in the sleeve substantially centers the pile in the sleeve when the sleeve is lowered over the pile. Pile support pins movably received in cylinders on the sleeve are form the release mechanism and are movable by an ROV for installation of the tool and lifting and installing of a pile.
