Removable Splash Guard Assembly For Vehicles

US Patent:
6179311, Jan 30, 2001
Filed:
Aug 5, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/129987
Inventors:
Kenneth M. Larkin - Redmond OR
Manuel P. Baptista - Redmond OR
Assignee:
Roadwing - Redmond OR
International Classification:
B62D 2518
US Classification:
280154
Abstract:
A splash guard assembly having an attachment mechanism in the form of a collar. The collar is adapted to fit around a portion of a ball mount or receiver hitch of a trailer hitch. A generally horizontal extending structure is attached to the collar and has splash guards operationally attached to its distal ends. The generally horizontal extending structure can be an integral horizontal bar or a series of bars fixedly or adjustably disposed with respect to the collar. The generally horizontal extending structure can include bent portions allowing the splash guards to be connected to the structure at a different vertical position than that of the collar. The collar can be made of any design that allows a firm connection with the ball mount or receiver hitch. The attachment mechanism can alternatively take the form of a generally horizontal plate adapted to be attached to a bumper of the vehicle.

Hitch Assembly With Retractable Trailer Coupling

US Patent:
5571270, Nov 5, 1996
Filed:
May 15, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/441445
Inventors:
Kenneth M. Larkin - Redmond OR
International Classification:
B60D 154
US Classification:
2804911
Abstract:
A hitch assembly is proved with a retractable hitch mount and a retractable safety chain connector, both of which retract to provide a hitch assembly which conforms substantially to the contour of the towing vehicle body when the hitch assembly is not in use. The hitch mount is configured for retractable extension from a hitch base plate, providing a seat for a matching trailer mount. The safety chain connector is configured for retractable extension from the base plate, providing a seat for a trailer-connected safety chain. The hitch base plate attaches to the towing vehicle body, defining a support surface which is contoured substantially similar to the body contour of the towing vehicle. When the hitch mount and safety chain connector are retracted, the hitch assembly conforms generally to the body contour of the towing vehicle, minimizing any interference with the vehicle's use.

Hitch Assembly

US Patent:
5738363, Apr 14, 1998
Filed:
Jul 1, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/674135
Inventors:
Kenneth M. Larkin - Redmond OR
International Classification:
B60D 154
US Classification:
2804911
Abstract:
A hitch assembly is provided with a hitch mount and a safety chain connector, both of which adjust to provide a hitch assembly which conforms substantially to the contour of the towing vehicle body when the hitch assembly is not in use. The hitch mount is configured for retractable extension from a hitch base plate, providing a seat for a matching trailer mount. The safety chain connector is configured to selectively provide a seat for a trailer-connected safety chain. The hitch base plate attaches to the towing vehicle body, defining a support surface which is contoured substantially similar to the body contour of the towing vehicle. The hitch mount and safety chain connector are adjustable such that the hitch assembly may be conformed generally to the body contour of the towing vehicle, thus minimizing any interference with the vehicle's use.

Hitch Adapter

US Patent:
6135482, Oct 24, 2000
Filed:
Jul 14, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/115579
Inventors:
Kenneth M. Larkin - Redmond OR
International Classification:
B52D 5300
US Classification:
2804161
Abstract:
A hitch adapter includes an elongate frame having a first end with a kingpin socket assembly mounted thereon for receipt of a kingpin. A second end of the frame has a hitch ball receiver mounted thereon for attachment to a hitch ball. The kingpin receiver typically employs a glip member configured to embrace kingpin mounting structure of a trailer when the trailer's kingpin is received within the kingpin receiver. The hitch ball receiver includes a socket which accommodates universal movement of the adapter relative to the ball mount. The frame may be telescoping to provide for ready adjustment of the adapter for use in connection with various trailers.
