Voice Macros For Scanner Control

US Patent:
6816837, Nov 9, 2004
Filed:
May 6, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/306469
Inventors:
Kenneth P. Davis - Brighton CO
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G10L 1522
US Classification:
704275
Abstract:
A voice controlled capture device contains a processor that receives voice macros to control its operation. The capture device receives voice input, digitizes and sends the input to a second processor in a host computer system where speech recognition software within the host computer interprets the voice input to select a macro, and returns commands from the macro to the capture device where they are executed. Utilizing an interface or macro recorder within the capture device, and the speech recognition software within the host computer, the user can create voice macros incorporating individual voice commands. In a second embodiment, the capture device both analyzes the voice input and executes the commands of the macro.

Methods Of And Computer Readable Media For Automatically Setting Up Page Files For Labels For Compact Disc Media

US Patent:
6718517, Apr 6, 2004
Filed:
Dec 28, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/473916
Inventors:
Kenneth P. Davis - Brighton CO
Assignee:
Roxio, Inc. - Milpitas CA
International Classification:
G06F 1721
US Classification:
715526, 715517
Abstract:
Methods and computer readable media generate a page file representing a compact disc label sheet having label blanks thereon for one or both of a compact disc case or a compact disc. The sheet may have a label for one or both of the compact disc case and the compact disc. The method provides such sheet, wherein the sheet supports the labels at any of a plurality of locations. The sheet with the labels supported at particular locations define a particular geometric layout configuration. One or more images may also be on the sheet. Operations of the method optically accent the particular configuration, and then scan the optically accented configuration to generate a digital representation of the sheet. All of the images are then excluded from the digital representation so that the remaining digital representation represents only the labels. The remaining digital representation is analyzed to determine the location on the sheet of the labels.

Remote Scanning Through A Computer System Network

US Patent:
6167462, Dec 26, 2000
Filed:
Dec 11, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/210553
Inventors:
Kenneth P. Davis - Brighton CO
Steven D. Hariri - Ft. Collins CO
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Company - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
G06F 1300
US Classification:
710 5
Abstract:
Network scanner software that accesses scanners over a network to remotely scan a document. Once a scanner is reserved, no other computer system can access the scanner. The computer system to which the scanner is connected changes the appearance of an icon representing the scanner to indicate that the scanner is reserved. If a user of the computer system moves the cursor over the icon, a pop-up window is displayed with the name of the computer system that has the scanner reserved. Once a scanner is reserved, a user may place a document into the scanner, push a button on the scanner, whereupon the scanner scans the document and sends the scanned data to the computer system that reserved the scanner. A user may reserve a scanner, start a timer, and when the timer expires, the document in the scanner is scanned and the data returned to the computer system.

Apparatus And Method For An Installation Recovery System

US Patent:
6189147, Feb 13, 2001
Filed:
Oct 13, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/170504
Inventors:
Kenneth P. Davis - Brighton CO
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Company - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
G06F 9445
US Classification:
717 11
Abstract:
Apparatus and method are provided for efficiently recovering from an interrupted installation procedure. The installation system creates a list of components to be installed in the installation procedure. The installation recovery system works in conjunction with the component list and current component pointer to identify which component was the last component successfully installed in the install procedure. In an instance where recovery is required, the installation recovery system identifies the last component installed and then restarts the install procedure from the point it was interrupted.
