Filed:
Feb 24, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/512526
Inventors:
Gregory P. Dodd - Hackensack NJ
Kenneth J. Markowitz - Fanwood NJ
Assignee:
Block Drug Company, Inc. - Jersey City NJ
International Classification:
A61K 716
US Classification:
424 52, 424 49
Abstract:
A desensitizing agent for the cleaning and treatment of sensitive teeth in which the essential desensitizing ingredient is a combination of a first desensitizing agent in an amount of about 0. 1 to about 2 wt. % of SnF , and a second desensitizing agent in an amount of about 0. 1 to about 20 wt. % of a water soluble or water swellable polyelectrolyte. Dentifrice compositions employing the desensitizing agent of the present invention surprisingly exhibit excellent organoleptic and flavor release properties.

Dental Composition For Treating Hypersensitive Teeth

US Patent:
6416745, Jul 9, 2002
Filed:
May 3, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/848138
Inventors:
Kenneth J. Markowitz - Fanwood NJ
Benjamin D. Fitz - Brooklyn NY
Assignee:
Block Drug Company, Inc. - Jersey City NJ
International Classification:
A61K 716
US Classification:
424 49, 424450
Abstract:
The present invention provides dental compositions and methods for treating dentinal hypersensitivity teeth based on the discovery that anionic liposomes possess the capacity to induce mineral formation in the dentinal tubules which partially or fully block them. The subject compositions comprise the liposomes and a suitable carrier and are advantageous in that they can deliver additional agents useful in the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity, particularly nerve desensitizing agents, to the tubules. The liposomes of the invention are further advantageous in that they are stable to conventional sources of fluoride ion conventionally used as anti-caries agents. The methods of the present invention utilize the subject composition to effect blocking of the dentinal tubules and to simultaneously deliver other treatment agents such as nerve desensitizing agents for the combined benefits thereof.
