Lightweight Knuckle For A Railroad Car Coupler

US Patent:
6129227, Oct 10, 2000
Filed:
Apr 22, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/636033
Inventors:
Richard A. Openchowski - Bolingbrook IL
Scott A. Beatty - Chicago IL
Andreas M. Haas - Addison IL
Kenneth F. Packer - Naperville IL
Jiten V. Shah - Naperville IL
Assignee:
National Casting Incorporated - Chicago IL
International Classification:
B61G 300
US Classification:
213111
Abstract:
A lightweight knuckle weighing substantially less than an AAR Standard Knuckle, is described for use in a railroad car coupler. This lightweight knuckle can be used, for example, to replace AAR Standard knuckle which becomes broken or otherwise damaged during operation and requires replacement in the field. Both the contouring and inner coring of an AAR Standard knuckle are radically changed to produce this lightweight knuckle which has all the functioning features of the standard knuckle, so as not to adversely effect the coupling and uncoupling operations of a coupler in which the lightweight knuckle is used.

Methods And Systems For Reducing The Transport Of Contaminants In Groundwater

US Patent:
2007022, Sep 27, 2007
Filed:
Mar 20, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/723521
Inventors:
Alan D. Wilks - Mount Prospect IL, US
Kenneth F. Packer - Naperville IL, US
Daniel Grant Greene - Ada MI, US
International Classification:
C02F 1/52
US Classification:
210702, 210747, 21017007
Abstract:
Methods for reducing the transport of contaminants in groundwater and methods for reducing the contamination of groundwater are disclosed. The methods may include adding a reagent to groundwater and contacting a contaminant with the reagent to form a precipitate and compiling the precipitate to form a barrier to groundwater flow. Systems for reducing the transport of contaminants in groundwater including an arrangement for adding a reagent to a groundwater flow path and a formed barrier comprising contaminant precipitate in the groundwater flow path are also disclosed.

Shot-Counting Device For A Firearm

US Patent:
8046946, Nov 1, 2011
Filed:
Jan 10, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/651722
Inventors:
Kenneth F. Packer - Naperville IL, US
Alan D. Wilks - Mount Prospect IL, US
Peter J. Schubert - Naperville IL, US
Thomas E. Long - Downers Grove IL, US
Assignee:
Packer Engineering, Inc. - Naperville IL
International Classification:
F41A 9/53
US Classification:
42 101, 324200
Abstract:
A device for counting shots fired by a firearm including a permanent magnet mounted to moving portion of the firearm and electrically coupled to a coil mounted on a relatively stationary portion of the firearm. Movement of the magnet relative to the coil induces an electromotive force within the coil. The induced electromotive force can be used increment a shot-count indictor and thereby record the number of shots fired by the firearm. The electromotive force can also be measured by a verification circuit to determine the strength of a shot and thereby verify whether a round was actually discharged by the firearm. In some embodiments, information regarding the number of shots discharged and the strength of the shots can be transmitted to an external device.

Filtration System For Metalworking Fluids

US Patent:
7410569, Aug 12, 2008
Filed:
Nov 18, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/164339
Inventors:
Turhan A. Tilev - Glen Ellyn IL, US
John Wayne Nowicki - West Chicago IL, US
Kenneth Frederick Packer - Naperville IL, US
International Classification:
B01D 29/52, B01D 29/66, B01D 21/04
US Classification:
21016702, 2101722, 2101723, 210299, 210305, 2103231, 21033301, 210411, 2104165, 210499, 210521, 210526
Abstract:
A filtration system for metalworking fluids has panel filter elements arranged in cells in which the filter frames and panels are approximately parallel to one another. The filter frames are disposed such that the filter surfaces are oriented at an acute angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the drag-out tank within which they are installed. The filter elements are constructed by affixing a microscreen filter to a wire mesh support structure. The wire mesh structure provides as much support as the perforated plates of the prior art, while featuring significant gains in effective filter area when compared with perforated plate constructions.
