High-Efficiency Low-Polarization-Dependent-Loss Lamellar Diffraction-Grating Profile And Production Process

High-Efficiency Low-Polarization-Dependent-Loss Lamellar Diffraction-Grating Profile And Production Process

US Patent:
6747799, Jun 8, 2004
Filed:
Nov 12, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/992849
Inventors:
Larry Fabiny - Boulder CO
Kenneth Edmund Arnett - Boulder CO
Assignee:
PTS Corporation - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G02B 518
US Classification:
359569, 385 37, 398 84, 398 87
Abstract:
A reflective lamellar diffraction grating is provided that is suitable for a variety of applications, including applications related to C-band telecommunication functions. The average efficiency of the diffraction grating in S- and P-polarization states exceeds 90% while simultaneously providing a PDL less than 0. 2 dB over the entire wavelength range used for C-band telecommunication functions. The diffraction grating is thus suitable for incorporation into various telecommunication systems, including a wavelength router configured for routing signals having a plurality of spectral bands.

Grating Fabrication Process Using Combined Crystalline-Dependent And Crystalline-Independent Etching

Grating Fabrication Process Using Combined Crystalline-Dependent And Crystalline-Independent Etching

US Patent:
6517734, Feb 11, 2003
Filed:
Sep 26, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/669758
Inventors:
Lilac Muller - Boulder CO
Kenneth Edmund Arnett - Boulder CO
Larry Fabiny - Boulder CO
Kristofer Stefan Josef Pister - Orinda CA
Assignee:
Network Photonics, Inc. - Boulder CO
International Classification:
G02B 518
US Classification:
216 24, 216 39, 216 57, 216 67, 216 72, 216 79, 216 88, 216 99, 20419234
Abstract:
A diffraction grating is fabricated by forming two sets of parallel trenches in a crystal surface, one set with a crystalline-independent etching technique and the other made with a chemically crystalline-dependent etchant. The intersection of the two sets of trenches removes material from the crystal surface to produce an etched crystal surface that can be coated with a reflective material to form the diffraction grating or can be used as a master for batch fabrication of diffraction gratings.

In-Line Photoluminescence Imaging Of Semiconductor Devices

In-Line Photoluminescence Imaging Of Semiconductor Devices

US Patent:
2013004, Feb 21, 2013
Filed:
Jan 4, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/520375
Inventors:
Ian Andrew Maxwell - Five Dock, AU
Thorsten Trupke - Coogee, AU
Robert Andrew Bardos - Surry Hills, AU
Kenneth Edmund Arnett - Boulder CO, US
Assignee:
BT Imaging Pty. Ltd. - Surry Hills, NSW
International Classification:
G01N 21/64
US Classification:
2504591, 2504581, 2502081
Abstract:
Methods and systems are presented for acquiring photoluminescence images () of silicon solar cells and wafers () as they progress along a manufacturing line (). In preferred embodiments the images are acquired while maintaining motion of the samples. In certain embodiments photoluminescence is generated with short pulse, high intensity excitation, () for instance by a flash lamp () while in other embodiments images are acquired in line scanning fashion. The photoluminescence images can be analysed to obtain information on average or spatially resolved values of one or more sample properties such as minority carrier diffusion length, minority carrier lifetime, dislocation defects, impurities and shunts, or information on the incidence or growth of cracks in a sample.

US Patent:
2008027, Nov 13, 2008
Filed:
May 12, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/119343
Inventors:
Kenneth Edmund Arnett - Boulder CO, US
Robert Bruce Charters - Palmerston, AU
Chan Hong Wang - Acton, AU
Graham Roy Atkins - Kaleen, AU
Ian Andrew Maxwell - Five Dock, AU
Duncan Ian Ross - Acton, AU
Assignee:
RPO Pty Limited - Acton
International Classification:
G06F 3/042, G02B 6/32, F21V 8/00
US Classification:
345175, 385 33, 362555
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for transmitting, collimating and redirecting light from a point-like source to produce a collimated optical signal in a substantially planar form are provided. In one embodiment, the apparatus is manufactured as a unitary transmissive body comprising a collimation element and a redirection element, and optionally a transmissive element. In another embodiment, the apparatus is assembled from one or more components. The apparatus and method are useful for providing sensing light for an optical touch input device or for providing illumination for a display.
