Method Of Identifying Speakers In A Home Theater System

US Patent:
8199941, Jun 12, 2012
Filed:
Jun 22, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/489322
Inventors:
Michael D. Hudson - Portland OR, US
Kelly M. McArthur - Hillsboro OR, US
Richard S. Liebelt - Beaverton OR, US
John W. Klinker - Portland OR, US
Assignee:
Summit Semiconductor LLC - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04R 5/02, H04R 29/00
US Classification:
381303, 381 58, 381 59, 381 27
Abstract:
With an array of speakers including a center speaker provided with left and right ultrasonic electro-acoustic transducers and left and right speakers provided with respective ultrasonic electro-acoustic transducers, it is possible to identify the left and right speakers. One approach includes energizing the left transducer of the center speaker to emit an acoustic ping signal, utilizing the transducers of the left and right speakers to detect the ping signal, measuring lapse of time between emission of the ping signal by said the left transducer and detection of the ping signal by the transducers of the left and right speakers. Then, the right transducer of the center speaker is energized to emit an acoustic ping signal, the transducers of the left and right speakers are utilized to detect the ping signal, and lapse of time between emission of the ping signal by the right transducer and detection of the ping signal by the transducers of the left and right speakers is measured.

System And Methods Of Performing Real-Time On-Board Automotive Telemetry Analysis And Reporting

US Patent:
2006022, Oct 12, 2006
Filed:
Apr 11, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/401831
Inventors:
Michael Hudson - Hillsboro OR, US
Kelly McArthur - Hillsboro OR, US
International Classification:
G01M 17/00
US Classification:
701029000, 701030000
Abstract:
Active diagnosis of current operating and potential fault conditions in the operation of the vehicle is implemented using a diagnostic controller interoperating with an on-board vehicle control system as installed within a vehicle. The diagnostic controller supports autonomous execution of diagnostic tests initiated dependent on the operational state of the vehicle. The control system includes a diagnostics control manager that autonomously selects test routines for execution at defined operational states, including in-service operational states, a monitor, responsive to sensor data retrieved in real-time from the on-board vehicle control system, operative to detect a current instance of the in-service operational state of the vehicle, and a diagnostic test scheduler operative to initiate execution of the diagnostic test routine upon detection of the current instance of the in-service operational state of the vehicle.

System And Methods For Aligning Capture And Playback Clocks In A Wireless Digital Audio Distribution System

US Patent:
2007003, Feb 8, 2007
Filed:
Aug 4, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/499126
Inventors:
Kelly McArthur - Hillsboro OR, US
Michael Hudson - Portland OR, US
International Classification:
H04R 5/02
US Classification:
381311000
Abstract:
A wireless digital audio distribution system includes a transmitter that performs parallel acquisition of audio data from plural audio data channels. The acquired data is stored to a first buffer during intervals defined by a first clock unit. A radio transmitter provides for the packetization of the parallel collected data and the inclusion of a timing marker in a predetermined packet of data transmitted during an interval. A receiver unit delivers audio output data corresponding to one of the audio data channels. The receiver unit includes a radio receiver for receiving packetized data and storing second parallel collected data to said second buffer. A demultiplexer is coupled to the second buffer to select the audio output data corresponding to the selected one of the plural audio data channels, whereby the audio output data is available for the selective reproduction of the chosen audio data channel.

High Quality, Controlled Latency Multi-Channel Wireless Digital Audio Distribution System And Methods

US Patent:
2007005, Mar 15, 2007
Filed:
Aug 4, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/499405
Inventors:
Michael Hudson - Portland OR, US
Kelly McArthur - Hillsboro OR, US
International Classification:
H04L 7/00
US Classification:
375354000
Abstract:
A multichannel wireless digital audio distribution system provides for the synchronization of the output of audio data by different receiving units set to output audio data for receiver unit assigned channels. The transmitter includes parallel data respectively representing a plurality of audio data channels in each data packet. The data packets are broadcast wirelessly with predetermined packets including a timing marker. Each receiver unit receives the broadcast data packets and selects the parallel data respectively representing the receiver unit assigned audio data channel. The receiver unit outputs the selected data synchronized to the receipt of the timing marker by said receiving unit.
