According to the the GRAMMY Foundation website located at Grammy.org, The GRAMMY Foundation in concert with some of the nation's most prominent entertainment attorneys, has established the Entertainment Law Initiative to promote discussion and debate about the most compelling legal issues facing the music industry today. ELI also endeavors to support future careers in entertainment law by seeking out the nation's top law students and giving them invaluable networking and educational opportunities. Three major components comprise ELI: a legal seminar series, a national writing competition for law students, and a high-profile luncheon during GRAMMY Week. Karen was a 2000 winning finalist with her paper entitled, "The No Electronic Theft Act: The Music Industry's New Instrument in the Fight Against Music Piracy."
