Dr. Karen McCarthy graduated summa cum laude from Buffalo State College. She graduated from medical school at Downstate Medical Center in New York. She completed one year of residency in Radiology at the Columbia Presbyterian College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City. She then completed her residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York. Dr. McCarthy is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and worked with Beaches Family Medicine from 1991 to 2010. Dr. McCarthy also established the City Rescue Mission Clinic in 1993 and the Trinity Rescue Mission Clinic in 2004, where she volunteers her medical skills at each mission on a weekly basis. Honored by the Florida Medical Association in 1993 for volunteer work with the homeless and in 1994 was honored by Jacksonville Magazine as one of the 10 women making a difference in the First Coast community. Dr. McCarthy received a Jefferson Award at WTLV-TV’s “12 Who Care” in September, 1995. She was an Olympic Torch Bearer for the 1996 Olympics. She was also an EVE finalist in 1998 and received the Duval County Medical Society Community Service Award in 2002.
