Bone Support Assembly

US Patent:
6503250, Jan 7, 2003
Filed:
Apr 19, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/838646
Inventors:
Kamaljit S. Paul - Oshkosh WI 54901
International Classification:
A61B 1780
US Classification:
606 69
Abstract:
A bone support assembly comprising a support plate, bone fasteners, and a bone fastener cover assembly. The support plate comprises a fixed base portion comprising base apertures, and a slot portion comprising slot-shaped apertures. The bone fasteners are disposed in ones of the base apertures and the slot-shaped apertures, the bone fasteners and the support plate, in combination, being adapted and configured for holding the support plate to bone material. The bone fastener cover assembly comprises a cover plate, and at least one cover plate fastener effective to fasten the cover plate to the support plate. The cover plate and support plate, in combination, accommodate both longitudinal and transverse sliding movement of the cover plate along the top surface of the support plate to thereby cover and uncover ones of the apertures, having bone fasteners therein, while the cover plate is attached to the support plate.

Bone Support Assembly

US Patent:
6755833, Jun 29, 2004
Filed:
Dec 14, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/014409
Inventors:
Kamaljit S. Paul - Oshkosh WI 54901
Rodney S. Rogstad - Menominee WI
Troy R. Larson - Menominee WI
Bruce W. Stursa - Sarona WI
Assignee:
Kamaljit S. Paul - Oshkosh WI
International Classification:
A61B 1756
US Classification:
606 70, 606 66
Abstract:
Novel bone support assembly, and methods of use, wherein a locking member such as a resiliently flexible band, mounted to a bone support plate, automatically and as a consequence of driving a bone fastener through the bone support assembly and into bone structure of a recipient of such bone support assembly, activates a locking feature of the bone support assembly to thereby prevent the bone fastener from withdrawing out of the bone support assembly and past the locking member.

Bone Support Assembly

US Patent:
7070599, Jul 4, 2006
Filed:
Jul 24, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/202705
Inventors:
Kamaljit S. Paul - Oshkosh WI, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/80
US Classification:
606 71, 606 61, 606 69
Abstract:
Bone support assemblies, methods of fabrication, and methods of use. Such assemblies comprises locking structures assembled to bone support plates. The locking structure comprises elongate bands biased against each other. The bands extend into apertures in the plate. The bands automatically respond to side forces applied by interfering elements of bone fasteners driven through the apertures, by moving away from the interfering elements, and returning to blocking positions over the interfering elements after the interfering elements pass the bands. Methods of fabrication include inserting the locking structure longitudinally into the channel and optionally extending locking studs through the plate and engaging the locking structure. Methods of use include advancing interfering elements of the bone fasteners through the apertures and past the bands. The interfering elements deflect the bands as the interfering elements pass and the bands, return to their initial positions when the interfering elements have moved past the bands.

Bone Treatment Plate Assembly

US Patent:
7008426, Mar 7, 2006
Filed:
Oct 22, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/691409
Inventors:
Kamaljit S. Paul - Oshkosh WI, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/80
US Classification:
606 70, 606 61, 606 69
Abstract:
Bone treatment plate assemblies, methods of fabrication, and methods of use. Such assemblies comprise spring structures assembled to bone treatment plates. The spring structure comprises elongate bands, and springs between the bands, urging the bands against structure of the plate. Spring width is less than spring height and/or one or more protuberances extending from the band or bands cooperate with one or more detents in the plate thereby to arrest longitudinal movement of the spring structure with respect to the plate.

Bone Support Plate Assembly

US Patent:
2005001, Jan 13, 2005
Filed:
Sep 12, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/662194
Inventors:
Kamaljit Paul - Oshkosh WI, US
International Classification:
A61B017/56
US Classification:
606071000
Abstract:
A sliding bone support plate assembly comprises at least first and second plates which slide with respect to each other, varying the length of the plate assembly by plate-on-plate sliding after bone screws mount the plate assembly to vertebrae in a recipient. The plates comprise cooperating sliding structures which cooperate with each other to interconnect the plates to each other and to facilitate sliding movement of the plates with respect to each other. Such sliding accommodates varying the length of the plate assembly, and relieving stress which would otherwise be imposed on the plate assembly by post-procedural settling of respective vertebrae to which the plates are mounted without requiring any movement of a plate with respect to a bone to which that plate is mounted. The plate assembly is fabricated using bio-compatible, bio-stable materials which are safe for extended use in a living human, and which are not generally assimilated.

Spinal Plate Assembly

US Patent:
7204837, Apr 17, 2007
Filed:
Jul 24, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/627065
Inventors:
Kamaljit S. Paul - Oshkosh WI, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/58
US Classification:
606 61, 606 69
Abstract:
Spinal plate assemblies, methods of fabrication, and methods of use. Such assemblies comprises blocking structures assembled to spinal plates. The blocking structure comprises an elongate band which can be against structure of the plate. The band is mounted into a continuous or intermittent channel in the plate, and extends into an aperture in the plate. The band responds to side forces applied by interfering elements of bone fasteners driven through an aperture, by moving away from the interfering element, and returning to a blocking position over the interfering element after the interfering element has passed the band. Methods of fabrication include inserting the blocking structure, optionally longitudinally, into the channel. Methods of use include advancing bone screws through an aperture and past the band. The bone screw deflects the band as the screw passes, and the band moves to the blocking position when the screw has moved past the band.
