While doing my internship with the Philadelphia Public Health Department, I worked with children and adolescents in a program called Kids In Control, During that program I was able to arrange for the children to perform at the annual Miss. S.O.C.A. Caribbean Queen Pageant and raised funds for their costumes and for their parents and family members to attend the Pageant free of cost. It took approximately two months to rehearse their routine and become performance ready. There were at least ten children who performed and twenty parents, family members and co-workers who turned out for the event. It was a wonderful experience and very rewarding to see how proud the children were of themselves and how proud their families were to watch them perform.
