Duties and Responsibilities: Orients patients and significant others to the unit. Maintains the highest possible standard of patient care at all times. Performs professional nursing duties relating to the treatment and welfare of patients under the supervision of head nurse. Fosters good patient /nurse relationship. Accompanies attending doctors on ward rounds and implement treatment as required. Monitors and evaluates nursing care plan. Checks controlled drugs at each shift in accordance with the hospital policies. Maintains patient records and respect patient's privacy and confidentiality. Assists doctors in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Maintains ward inventories and stocks as per hospital policies. Does initial and continuous head-to-toe physical examination especially neurological assessment. Does charting and documentation. Monitors vital signs. Administers feedings through nasogastric tube. Administers oral, rectal, intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous and IV medications. Assists and regulates IVF therapy in soluset, venoset, microset and through the infusion pump. Monitors and cares for patients with ventilators, tracheostomy or endotracheal tube, catheters and cardiac monitor. Takes oxygen saturation of patients with the use of pulse oximeter. Refers patients to appropriate diagnostic center as well as to other members of the health team like the physicians. Gives appropriate health teachings and discharge instructions.
