Abstract:
An oil tube bundle positioning device (26) for supporting and restraining oil cooler tube bundles (10) so that they can be safely oriented from one position to another, e. g. , from a vertical position to a horizontal position, for cleaning and servicing. The positioning device (26) includes a substantially rigid beam element (28), a first plate (30) fixed to the beam element (28) and a second plate (32) movably supported by the beam element (28) and spaced from the first plate (30). The positioning device is designed to receive an oil tube bundle (10) in the spacing between the first and second plates (30, 32). A plurality of tapered dowels (42) extend from each of the first and second plates (30, 32). Each dowel (42) is positioned to engage an end of a tube (14) of the tube bundle (10) upon the tube bundle (10) being received between the first and second plates (30, 32). At least one restraining strap (40), adapted to encircle the periphery of a tube bundle (10) received between the first and second plates (30, 32) is fixed to the beam element (28) at a position intermediate the first and second plates (30, 32).

Abstract:
An oil ejector for conveying a quantity of oil under pressure to a region to be lubricated, the including a nozzle member (4,18) having an inlet end for receiving a supply of oil under pressure and an outlet end for ejecting oil supplied to the inlet end, the outlet end having an outlet passage (6,20) through which oil is ejected at a higher velocity and lower pressure than the oil entering the inlet end, the ejection pressure being a function of outlet passage (6,20) cross-sectional area, wherein the nozzle member (4,18) includes, at the outlet end, a fixed part (4) having at least one opening (6) and a movable part (18) mounted to the fixed part (4) for movement transverse to the ejection direction and having at least one opening (20) at least partly overlapping the opening (6) in the fixed part (4), with the region of overlap between the openings (6,20) defining the outlet passage (6,20), and the ejector further includes a remotely actuatable displacing mechanism (24,26) coupled to the movable part (18) for moving the movable part (18) relative to the fixed part (4) in order to vary the cross-sectional area of the outlet passage (6,20).

Abstract:
A turbine system is provided in which a turbine is associated with an auxiliary component such as a moisture separator reheater (MSR) through piping that extends over substantial distance and the respective supports for the turbine and the MSR are subject to differential movement upon a seismic shock. The turbine is rigidly supported on its foundation while the MSR has a floating support on its foundation which includes permanently lubricated sliding plates between the feet of the MSR and the MSR foundation. In addition, viscoelastic dampers are employed at spaced locations between the MSR and structural steel plates that are rigidly attached at one end to the turbine foundation. The dampers allow adequate movement of the MSR for the protection of crossover and crossunder piping due to thermal expansion and contraction, but minimize relative movement of the MSR and the turbine foundation upon seismic loading.

Abstract:
An axial thrust limiting system for a steam turbine including a rotor having a shaft, the turbine containing a plurality of chambers each defining a pressure zone containing a fluid which, during operation of the turbine, is at a pressure which influences the axial thrust load on the shaft, the turbine being constructed such that at least during rapid shut down a pressure differential can develop between two of the chambers to create an excessive axial thrust load on the shaft. The axial thrust limiting system includes controllable valve connected in a fluid flow path between the two chambers, and valve operating components connected for operating the valves during rapid shut down of the turbine in order to reduce the pressure differential between the two chambers.
