Inventors:
Joseph M. Magrath - McCook NE
International Classification:
A61J 100
US Classification:
604413
Abstract:
A device for transferring a liquid from a bottle at substantially atmospheric pressure to a bottle at a low pressure comprises a hollow needle of steel or the like mounted in a grip or handle member having a configuration to facilitate the pushing of the needle through a bottle stopper at either end of the device. The needle is sharply pointed at both ends and the handle consists of a strip of steel or other suitable metal bent at its ends to provide stops having holes to accommodate the needle which extends beyond the stop at each end. The strip is bent or bowed toward the center portion of the needle and is soldered or otherwise secured to the needle. The sloping portions of the strip provide thumb rests for pushing the needle in either direction.

Aspirator And Resuscitator For Newborn Animals

US Patent:
4539985, Sep 10, 1985
Filed:
Jun 3, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/500770
Inventors:
Joseph M. Magrath - McCook NE
International Classification:
A61M 1600
US Classification:
12820513
Abstract:
An aspirator and resuscitator for newborn animals comprising a cylindrical accordion bellows and adaptors for removing fluids from the nasal and oral passages and for delivering air to and removing air from the breathing passages. The bellows and an adaptor are connected to a central handle which is also the fluid conductor between the bellows and the adaptor. The position and arrangement of the handle provide an effective grip for the whole hand and facilitate the holding and operating of the device effectively and quickly and with safety for the animal. An arrangement is provided for assuring effective and uniform stacking or compressing of the bellows pleats and minimizing the likelihood of damage to the bellows during use.

Method And Substance For The Detection Of Cows In Estrus

US Patent:
4696258, Sep 29, 1987
Filed:
Jan 21, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/821219
Inventors:

Abstract:
A substance for facilitating the detection of estrus applied to the tailhead and rump of a cow as a patch comprises a mass of microencapsulated dye mixed in a suitable paint. The paint dries as a durable layer the color of which will change when substantial pressure is applied for a predetermined time. Should the cow be mounted by another animal for say five seconds or more a large portion of the microcapsules will break and release the dye which colors the patch. The cows with colored patches can then be found by periodic inspection and removed from the herd for insemination.

Piston Operated Pump For Viscous Materials

US Patent:
4317530, Mar 2, 1982
Filed:
Dec 31, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/108934
Inventors:
Joseph M. Magrath - McCook NE
Assignee:
Merck & Co., Inc. - Rahway NJ
International Classification:
B67D 502
US Classification:

Abstract:
Disclosed is an improved piston operated pump for viscous materials wherein the entrapment of air bubbles in the viscous material is reduced by placing a spring in the pump cylinder. The spring is the same diameter as the pump cylinder and is about as long as the length of travel of the piston. The spring is conical in shape so that it may be fully compressed without substantially affecting the capacity of the pump cylinder or the length of the piston stroke.
